A small comparison of the three big fighter cannons in game:

30mm MK 108 (109's, Me 163, 262, 190A8 Ta 152)
velocity 505 m/s, projectile weight 330g, ROF 10/s, AH damage 11.6
one second burst damage value: 116

37mm M4 (P-39)
velocity 610 m/s, projectile weight 608g, ROF 2.5/s, AH damage 13.2
one second burst damage value: 33

37mm NS-37 (Yak-9t)
velocity 900 m/s, projectile weight 735g, ROF 4/s, AH damage 16.7
one second burst damage value 66.8

The secret to the P-39's cannon is simply precision. I knocked a wing off of a Typhoon at 600 yards with a single cannon round. The guy was trying to run on the deck. I eased the nose up a bit to account for drop and squeezed off one round.

Played around with the Q a bit in the DA. Landed five kills in my first time playing around with her using "live" fire. Woulda been six but a squeaker in a Pony kept pulling that "Run when reversed and come back the instant he pulls off" bs.  :furious

All in all a pretty sweet little ride. The Q is quite nimble and VERY responsive in the mid speed-range. I wish she had a bigger clip in the cowl guns, but they hit pretty hard and even a short burst from just the cowl .50s can really mess up an opponent (sheared the wing off a C2 with just a half second burst of the nose .50s in my DA sortie). She still feels somewhat sluggish, even next to the early-model F4Us and I'll still be sticking to my Hogs, but will give her a look whenever I want to do something different.

I can't say much about durability, as I didn't take a ping on that sortie.  :devil
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.
