<S> Fighting 31, JG11 and Kermit
« on: March 22, 2008, 01:17:48 AM »
First off, I'd like to give a BIG salute to Fighting 31 and JG11 for their part in defense of Task Force 76. The first enemy attack was virtually annihilated, and not one bomber scored hits on the target. VMF-251 was largely along for the ride on this one, as you guys cut those B-25s to pieces, and again at the end of the frame when the attack on TG 77 was hammer and anvil'ed between the 76 and 77 caps.

As commanding officer of VMF-251, I've taken it upon myself to award Fighting 31 and JG11 with the Navy Unit Commendation.

Stampf and crew of JG11, I realize a US Navy Unit Commendation isn't exactly correct for a Luftwaffe squadron, so please feel free to convert this to whatever equivalent would be fitting as I'm unfamiliar with Luftwaffe decorations.

 :salute

I'd also like to toss a salute out to Kermit for that intense rolling fight on the deck towards the end of the frame. Good fight, sir.

 :salute

Luftwaffe??!!  This was IJN vs U.S.

Oh, wait... JG11... I'm dumb.

hehe, Nah, but seriously, I'm not in either of the squads you are commending, but thats a really cool thing to do Sax!  Very classy...

Top notch graphic, and really just cool.

Saxman, you SOB!
 :D

Very fun and memorable fight Saxman.  You guys had us surrounded after we were stripped off the bombers.  We gave you guys a hellava fight and so we didn't feel so bad about our death.  You guys did an excellent job.  We just ran out of bullets and parts.  You pushed our wingman tactics to their limits and broke us.  If only I could make a film of that...

As soon as I saw Shreck lone wolf the 2nd escort, I knew he was using us as bait!  I'm sure he survived another frame!  Shreck you yellowbellied punk!
:)

We had a great FSO.  We attacked the B5Ns at A39.  They only hit two hangers, but that's two too many.  They used GREAT tactics!  Entering and exiting A39 was awesome.  We only could get a few B5Ns, but feel we distrupted their dive bombing too.  Dang AK's were causing havoc and surprised attack my low element patrol.  We just calmly stayed above them and waited for the B5Ns to attack.

<S> Saxman and Squad
<S> AK's!
<S> Sky Knights for another excellent joint op in defense!  WTG on relying the B5Ns coordiated early on by APDrone.
<S> Jappa2 and his squad.  We got stripped off you but held on as long as we could.  We did our best with 5 pilots vs all those zeros.
Time's fun when you're having flies.

Kermit,

You guys actually got sandwiched between two separate CAPS during the end of the frame. Your strike intruded on C76's airspace so our CAP moved in to intercept, and when the bombers turned west towards 77 they ran into its defenders as well.

I paint "happy faces" on each round before my sorties :D Yea AK's were in a tough spot there for a second as we were caught between a high and low enemy fighter force. Our only option in my opinion was to attack the low formation and just hope the high ones wouldn't pick us as we went down after em. Was a really fun night IMO for the majority of people. WTG all. :salute

That was my very first FSO, and I am impressed!  Great effort by everyone.  The bomber formations were very intimidating. :salute

Thanks Ratt.  I didn't think I would have as much fun as I did confined to the bridge, but it was really a fun night.

LMFAO Vater!  "Starblazers".  My god that picture brought back memories.  What ever happened to the good cartoons like that, and...."Johny Quest".
