Skycrock hatin' on general George S. Patton in the other thread has just made him my rival!

SkyRock hatin on Patton in the other thread just raised him more than a few notches in my book. WTG SR.  :aok

Why thank you!  Patton was a self centered jerk and so was Mark Clark.  I might add that I loathe Clark much more than Patton as I see him as one of the highest ranking cowards we've ever had in the military! :aok

I totally agree. He was a pompous twit. I can't think of anyone I dislike more than Patton.  :aok

I just got done reading an increadible book on the Italian and Sicilian campaigns.  Excellent insite into all leadership during those years....Clark certainly was mismatched and a egotist.  Unreal how some of those generals were prima donnas.

Yeah, it was amazing (bad word) to look at all the orders he gave, obvious soldier killing zones with little accomplishment.

My grandfather was in that campaign...very interesting to hear his take.

I would say its probably OlDemon.  Not really a rivalry but I would love to go up against him again.  I've never beat him.  Came close once a couple of weeks ago when he met me co-Alt and co-E and we mixed it up.  He was in his pony and me in a Hog-1a.  I had a blast and we mixed it up pretty good.  I Didn't know it was him at first until I saw that the pony I was fighting was acting like a Zeke with speed.  After several merges and reversals, I noticed he was flying straight and level away from me.  I got on 200 and asked to confirm who I was fighting against and sure enough, it was the Demon.  He told me he had a PW so I saluted him and disengaged so he could go home.

I would love to fly against him in the DA sometime.  BTW, I wanted to mention the other 4 times he shot me down prior to this fight.

Mark Clark should have been hung for the decisions he made in the cassino valley!  Then to let the Germans go so he could ride into Rome(which the germans had left) just so he could get a photo-op, what a coward!

o i agree with you on Clark, and to a certain extent about Patton. But IMHO, I think Patton was the best general this country has ever seen. just ask the boys at Basitogne.( sorry for the spelling there) Battle of the Bulge. The germans were terrifed of the guy. Sure he was a spoiled brat, prima donna, but he kicked prettythang too.
I talked to a old man in a bar one afternoon that served under Patton. He hated the guy but respected him at the same time. Because he knew that the general would be right there in the thick of things with him. They don't make brass like that anymore.

Ah, I don't think so. He had his share of blunders. I could name more that a dozen Generals (off the top of my head) over the course of US history that where more talented than Patton, and a great deal less full of themselves to boot. Patton was very good at what he did, but his problem was that he knew it.

I doubt that you could find many members of the 101st at Bastogne who would agree that they needed being rescued.
