Mk 13-1A Torpedos for the TBM
« on: March 24, 2008, 07:19:29 PM »
I just picked up a copy of Squadron/Signal Publications #82 on the TBF/TBM series.  On page 17, there is this passage:

Quote
The revised torpedo was designated the Mk 13-A1 and quickly became known to Avenger crews as the 'ring-tailed' torpedo.  The improved flight characteristics of the 'ring-tailed' torpedo now allowed drops from up to 800 feet and airspeeds of 280 knots, greatly increasing the Avengers chances of surviving during a torpedo attack against a heavily armed enemy ship.

Honestly I'm not sure how this would effect actual gameplay; however, I think this choice would be nice, perhaps perked in Midwar.

Honestly, this weapon load out would be a perfect candidate to be added when we finally get perked ordnance options.

A few weeks back I dropped a torp from a TBM at 1000 feet going 250 mph indicated.  The torpedo successfully deployed.

yup the trainers page says that the torp will have a successfull drop at 900 feet, but with the new cv its hard to even come close to the cv.

I dont even bother trying to torp the fleet.  As long as their are manned 5 inch guns there is no reason to even try.

Matador and Yeager, I'll have to try it myself.  If true, it begs the question as to which type of torp HTC intended to model.

I like this idea, as I still can sink CV's even with there recent upgrades.  I must admit I prefer the head on shot and JU88's and spread the torpedos a bit in case CV turns.  Since the last update, two CV's have died from my torpedos.

I'd rather see Japanese torps added first.
