realistic speeds
« on: March 25, 2008, 05:49:29 PM »
im not saying this to make it easier, or harder, but wouldnt it make more sense for the speeds of approach to be more realistic? like in a 262 or 163 how many gunners EVER had a shot on them, and hit them effectivly?just and idea.

If you get hit by buff gunners in a jet its not HT's fault ;)

Closing speeds are 100% realistic.

Realistic speeds for what? What is it with squeakers and vague but nevertheless retarded ideas?

Hmm, it would seem that the bombers would have had the same amount of time for a shot as the 262 or 163 pilot would have.  Actually, considering the .50 cal ballistics vs the cannons I think the bomber gunner may have had a longer shooting window.

Granted, the bomber was larger and less manueverable, so may have been an easier target to hit.  But then again, the bomber gunner had a more stable platform to shoot from.

The closure speeds are really up to the fighter pilot, as is the approach angle.  A faster approach gives less time to hit or be hit.  A bad approach angle and speed would seem to be the fault of the fighter pilot, not the game...

Two ways to decrease the buffs firing time (and yours).

A. Low 10-2 o'clock headon pass
B. Very high 7 to 5 o'clock dive.

Using option A you can get pilot kills and flames with a Hurricane MK 1.
Using option B you can get flames and wings with 4 50s.

Using these two attacks I very rarely get damaged and almost never get killed. They may land hits but your doing 500 in a dive (Poni B at least) so the window of fire is very short. If you come in low you get the ball and front guns but there range is reduced due to foward airspeed. With a headon pass you can get closure rates exceeding 700 mph If you come in high sometimes you only get the top turret.

If you dont set it up right your exposing yourself to more guns for a longer period of time. I die myself regularly to lack of patients when setting up an attack run.

Bottom line...unless you run across 999000 or the like, your going to eat bomber formations up if you setup your attack.

Did you ever stop and think that HiTech & crew researches historical aviation stats/facts/figures to continually keep the game as close to realistic as possible? (With regard to playability of course.)

I can hardly image how "speeds of approach" can be unrealistic
