Your Position - Tibet vs. China
« on: March 25, 2008, 10:22:00 PM »
We've had a good amount of Tibet - China threads and I'm wondering what positions people have taken, if any and why.

If the U.S. tries to intervene it could be a flash point for world war 4.

I'm sayin' China by four touchdowns.  No contest.

What's the over/under?

I refuse to answer until I check the line on this one.

Nah, China by 5 goals. They play the football with the soccer ball.

There will be no WW4. Everyone will tsk, tsk, for a short while and then the world will avert its face and turn to another problem to tsk at.

I've been to Tibet. Nice place. Clean air. Kindest people I've ever come into contact with. China's population control policies are well on the way to making Tibetans extinct.

It would be pleasant if China just left them alone, but I suppose that's just a childish notion at this point.

It's their own "Internal Problem".  They need to figure it out.

I can't understand why anyone here would have "a position" about it.

Yeah, right, Rolex. As long as we can shop at Wal-Mart and feast upon Chinese produced products at a cheap price who gives a Rat's Arse if those products are produced by slave, child or convict labor? And who cares that China has NO EPA regulations, so by buying those products you contribute to pollution? And if they have to squash a few opponets in Tibet- or Tien Mien Square- or Formosa- as long as we can buy products made in China it's all good- right???

Our trade policy throws level playing fields and human rights all out the window anyway...so yeah, let's grab while the grabbing's good and when it all comes crashing down around us we'll point the finger at each other and it's all our fault in the end.

China just started industrializing 20+ years ago.

Current China is like the United States during the Second Industrial revolution.  At that time there's no EPA, decent labor laws, and child/slave labor was rampant.

Give them time.  CPC might include their own version of EPA and western-inspired labor laws in the future 5-year plans.

I'd like to see a free Tibet. Heck, I'd like to see a free everywhere. But China is the big dog and Tibet is the lamppost.
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.
