NVidia Driver Version?
« on: March 29, 2008, 01:10:27 PM »
The latest driver on the NVidia site for my AGP-slot BFG GeForce 7800 is version 169.21.

<voice, value=szell> Is it safe? </voice>

Based on earlier feedback here, I'm still running 84.21.

Nope, no known problems, just seeking that elusive frame rate increase.  ;)

most new drivers optimize newer cards, not the older ones. So the longer you have your card the less benifit you'll get from a driver update. Plus, there is always that chance you'll screw things up   ;)

Best things to do is defrag your computer, and keep it running clean and mean. Cut back on the settings to get the smoothest play you can. Un fortunately this means losing "eye candy" some times, but playing the game is what its all about ! You want pretty pictures..... go watch a movie  :aok

I have the 7950 GT....I run the original drivers that came with the card on CD. I just did a RE-Format on my hardrive and re-install. I loaded the newest Sound and VID drivers. Nothing but problems. I re-installed the originals and whalla, It runs great.

Newer is int allways better.

I have an AGP 7600GT and I've loaded various drivers from 90 something up to 169.21, benchmarking AH at each switch.  None made the slightest difference in frames per second.

The only way I know to try to get more performance through drivers is to try omega drivers that have been tweaked for game performance.
