You youngsters slay me  :)

I'm 58 in good health (thank heaven) and my exercise now consists of switching the remote from my right hand to my left.

Voila! And no exercise induced asthma from that workout!

By the way my job is supervising ironmaking operations of a blast furnace.  Keeps me moving and always busy.

Keeps me young and depressed :aok

HA :lol

You're just a KID!

I got more then a MONTH on ya!

Dadblamed whippersnappers!

Lol can't help but think of Denis Leary:

Hey, I got two words for you, OK. Jim Fixx. Remember Jim Fixx? The big, famous jogging guy? Jogged fifteen miles a day. Did a jogging book. Did a jogging video. Dropped out of a heart attack when? When he was ******* jogging, that's when! What do you wanna bet it was two smokers who found the body the next morning and went, "Hey! That's Jim Fixx, isn't it?" "Wow, what a ******* tragedy. Come on, lets go buy some butts."

Just keep in mind Rip that Albuterol is a bronchodilator. If you're using it more than a couple of times a week, your asthma is out of control and you're best bet will be to use an anti-inflammatory, which will be a steroid. I expect that your pulmonary guy will say much the same thing.

FWIW, my son has asthma. We've been dealing with it for the bast fifteen years.

Oh yeah... I should mention.. I have a friend that developed asthma as an adult. On a couple of occasions it's almost killed him.

Be careful. It can be really REALLY serious.

And that was the diagnosis, Sandman. I passed all the tests they put me through, but I did show mild asthma. They said I've probably always had it but its been in such a mild form that its not affected me, until now. Many things can trigger it, age is one of them.

They put me on Qvar. They said to use it for a few months (until the weather warms up) and if signs of improvement, reduce the twice-day to one-a-day. Also, he said to keep using the albuterol when I needed it.

Lol can't help but think of Denis Leary:

I'm pretty much a believer in you plan your own life before you come here. Everything that happens to you, everything you wanna learn, everything you want to perfect about yourself, and you design situations to occur to you throughout life that tests that and makes you grow. No God doing it to you, saying when your gonna die, we're all doing it to ourselves, the good and bad. No God is that vindictive.

Why would we do that, when you start an adventure or take on a responsibility you never see how hard it is going to be while your doing it, you only see the prize at the end. Which is dieing just a little smarter and leaving this world and entering the next one just a little bit less of an prettythanghole than when you first came here.

So bungee jump, skydive, and have sex in wild unprotected orgies all you want, cause if you think your going to offset it all by jogging......obviously not.

I'm 51, 6'1", and 231 llbs. I, too, strength train RIP and have since I was 18. I have had shoulder surgery and now need a shoulder replacement (from a work injury at age 17). The funny thing is, I can STILL weight train, even with the damaged shoulder. I am still the strongest SOB I know (in my mind anyway :)) but I am worried a shoulder replacement will put an end to the kind of training I have done for all these years. Yes, getting old does, indeed, suck.  :cry

Oh yeah, my endocrine system is shutting down. Embrace the suck, RIP.

Lazs bio is intriguing.  The only thing missing from the first post and the second was the aliens that examined him 8 years ago  :)  JK!

Rip, I found out the hard way I had some allergies.  After buying the home in 04, I got into the whole home landscaping thing.  Suddenly, whammo...feeling spacey/off center then vertigo three times in one day.  Got checked out, then referred to an allergist.  Bingo..allergic to grass.  (And the usual suspects...dustmites, etc)

Every March thru October its an Alavert every morning.

While not as "built" as you are, I've been having a good time reducing the cholesterol via healthier eating habbits, fitness and working out with the trainer.  My hypochondriac phase has finally passed...seeing my coworker, a heavy smoker, bad eating habbits have a heart attack at 44 really hit my like a lightning bolt.  Not that I was in any danger myself...but a wakeup call to treat the body better.  I now view food as a fuel and give it only the best  :)

Good luck with the diagnosis.  One thing I am noticing about getting older...the recovery time after working out.  Yeouch!  Its a steady diet of ibuprofen and IcyHot on those day after sessions!

You aren't too "quick on the draw" are you?   It's "Asthma" and Albuterol is NOT a steroid.   It's a good thing you know what your daughter was taking!    :rock

Our history is similar. I started weight training at age 16 and did so sporadically until I was 35, at which time I have never stopped for longer than 2 weeks (up until last summer, took 2 months off due to injury). I've had one shoulder operated on, and the other has arthritis, but about 7 years ago (after my shoulder operation) I gave up any Military Press exercise that involved lifting weight OVER my head. The shoulder doc told me that the human body is not engineered to do that well, and advise I give it up.  I use Glucosamine today to keep going, and yeah, there's alittle pain involved but nothing serious.  Its tough to "lighten down" after setting so many goals over the years and hitting them.  I'm going to continue to lift until I die, even if its 1 lb.  :)  Good luck on your excercise routine and impending surgery Druss.

Ripsnort, I'd take anything asthma-related very seriously, because it's subsequent development seems to be unpredictable.  If you get a sensitivity... it can get away from you. It can be a terrifying thing so pay attention.
