Thanks for the well wishes guys. The SUV is a goner. I should get 6-7k for it, and because I have smart parents that taught me well, my tier 1 credit is going to be me something new & spiffy (with good milage for once).
Now I have to plug my insurance. State Farm has been awesome. My rental is already waiting. I'm fully covered, my rate will not be going up, and they're even covering my dog's initial vet visit and tomorrow' surgery ($400 first visit, surgery will probably be 1k+). If you're in Houston, you can't go wrong with my agent. There's no way in hell they'll ever get a dime out of that guy, but their level of service has been fantastic.
...and now, I'm off to get x-rays to make sure I won't have any nasty suprises.
Totally not the day I was expecting to have.
oh, and regarding the police response time. That's actually normal for this neighborhood (my home office is in it). It's over a mile across, has a fire department, and a school. Many people like to cut through and avoid the highway traffic. There's also 4 other school zones and a massive public park surrounding it on 2 other sides. The constables love to hide around the swimming pools and nail people running stop signs (such as my last ticket about 4 years ago). They're always right around the corner... and because it's going to be fodder for a gun debate later, yes, I have pistols in this house. 2 minutes still isn't fast enough if you're in a situation where somebody needs to be shot. I'm just glad I didn't lose my cool, put the guy in a lateral-vascular restraint, and end up getting an assault charge & strip search for my efforts.
