Some of you who work sedentary/office jobs may be able to relate to this.

I work Thur/Fri/Sat 9pm-7am overnights at the local hospital in IT Support.  Some nights are busy, helping crazy-busy Doctors and Nurses with technical issues/questions.  And some nights, all is quiet on the northern front.

So you sit.  Read.  Surf web.  Get a few assignments done, etc...a lot of sitting time.  And it seems all the chairs here seem to induce slouching/bad back positioning.  By the end of your shift (10 hours...yeargh...) you are stiff and sore.  Despite stretching every hour or so...back/shoulder pain.

A coworker suggested making an appointment with the massage therapist.  Not bad, I usually see them every few weeks and its awesome.

Man, this time...ow.  Ow.  Ow.  Yep, she said the back was sore, tight and all that massage talk for "What the heck did you do to yourself to be all knotted up?".  "Just sat in a chair most of the night!"

This has to be mother nature's way of greeting me to the 40s in 2 years  LOL

So tonight, its move around every half hour, stretch...and pop 2 Motrins every couple of hours.

Anyone else get this wonderful stuff in their line of work?

dude, be glad. i had sciatica(pardon if misspelled) when i was 31. it took me an hour after waking up to be able to get up and move. i couldn't sleep on a bed...laying on my back on the floor was the only painless position. i finally started going to doctors when over the counter pain killers stopped working during the day.....and with this, you can't really sit still or stand stil for long as they both hurt. anyway, all the docs wanted to cut me open....said it was the only way. a friend of mne hooked me up with this massage therapist, and after about 3 months, i started to feel a difference. after about a year, it didn't hurt at all. now i only go once or twice a month, because it's really the only TRUE complete relaxation i get. this woman fixed what the docs said could only be fixed through surgery. i'm 46 now, and don't think i NEED to do it, but i still do. she'll take care of you. they all seem to care a lot more than some docs do..and they make less too.

Ha Ha Ha, some really great posts here!  (Happy ending  LOL)

Maverick is right, the right chair makes a huge difference.  Its on order.  I asked and some other coworkers groaned that they could use a new chair too.

When I'm busy doing support, I sit up.  Last night wasnt quite so bad since we had an ongoing issue i was working on all night.

I do exercise a lot and stretch a lot during my shift.

I've been working out with a trainer twice a week. Id met my weight goals on my own but wanted a structured program to start toning up.  Phew, that's most of my soreness there!  But Im also having a lot of fun with it.  I just wish I had started in my 20s when recovery was 24 hours!
