5 Grand
« on: April 03, 2008, 10:00:33 PM »
Well, here is my next project. I'm sure it's gonna take me atleast a month or 200 to finish, but it's a special request & I must complete. I think she'll make a great addition to the set, especially since she is such a unique aircraft. I've also got some ties to this particular ship, which is why I've decided to take on this project, which may be the end of me.

I'm sure I'll be doing plenty of this ----> :furious before it's done.

Are you sure it's real, not photo-shopped?  :huh

No, to me, it just doesn't look...Right...

Could be the various signatures, though.

Trust me, it was a real aircraft. Began it's life as an "art board" for everyone in the factory then everyone who came into contact with it after.

100% real. If you really want I can get you a 3-page bio, serial number, dates, units, you name it. Very well known plane. But... how do you intend to do all of those signatures?!?

Now THAT im not too sure of. I BELIEVE the airframe saw combat. I do not, however, recall if it saw combat in that particular paint job. Give me until this time tomorrow, and I will find out :)

Yes it saw combat. It actually bellied in on trials while over seas & had to jettison the signed ball turret. Boeing sent engineers over to get her all fixed back up. I know this ship saw combat with all the signatures. I was lucky enough to know one of the gentlemen who flew as a gunner on this ship & I have access to probably the last photos of her before she met her demise. I'm even going to put signatures on the inside of the fuselage & gear wells like it actually had. This is one aircraft I can confidently say I need no help with research or photos of to make her accurate. I just wanted to post to make sure nobody attempted to do the skin.

As for the signatures. I'm going to get the big ones for sure in the right spots & see exactly how far down I can go with the resolution before the signatures start becoming illegible then play around with it from there. I can't say that it'll be 100% accurate as far as signatures go, but I'll do my best to make it as close as I can. I'm sure this will take me at the very least a month to complete to make come out right, but I'm sure the end result will be worth it.

And I'll bet even then the folks that signed it will be able to pick out their signature.  It's a nice salute to the workers on the home front. <S>
