Game Freeze
« on: April 02, 2008, 11:00:21 PM »
I bought a new computer last year with vista on it.  I totally formatted my computer and put Windows Xp.  My computer 2.4 processor with 2 gigs of ram on it.  I recently up dated my video card to a nivdia 8500 I can play the game for about an hour or so and then the game freezes.  It ends up with me looking up with either night or just blue sky.  I can to anything I have to hit the button in the front of the computer to turn it off and restart it.  I thought it was my power supply so I up graded it to 500mghz.  I played the game today and it freezed with in a half hour.  The same thing it looks up and I have to hit the button on the front to turn off the computer.  I am a computer dummy and need help.  Any little help would be great :salute

I just want to play my game  :pray

Sounds like a heat issue... have you checked temps after a half hour of vid card, MB, or CPU?

Sorry Basley I dont know how to check my temps on my computer.  When my computer freezes I put my hand by the computer and the air coming from it is cold.

AMD Dual core needs to have the patch applied but I think Windows 98 compatibility mode should be used anyway because even with the patch installed AMD caused issues for me.
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.

Yesterday I tried Skuzzy link for AMD  http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,199451.0.html.

But when i did that I started to get the spinning clip board and my game would freeze right way (never had that problem before).  I then tried running it in Windows98/me mode but the game shut off right when i got on the runway and the computer restarted.

I downloaded speedfan to see if it is a over heating problem.  I am going to work so I will be unable to test it out untill later this afternoon.

So i ran speed fan after an hour of flying and the game freezing and locking up.  I restarted my computer and ran speedfan.  Everything was around 40c except my core 2 (which is my nividia graphics card).  That was around 53c.  Would that be over heating and if so how do i solve that??

Your video card will run a little warmer than cpu.53 is isn't all that bad...mine runsabout 47 celcius.Do you know how to check to see how many processes you are running?I believe your problem is not having the fixes for the spinning clipboard done correctly, our you have a process running that is giving you problems.Skuzzy has a nice article on the AMD dual cores.Hope this helps.

Best way to check for overheating is to remove the computer side and place a small table fan facing it. If the problem clears it's heat.  make sure that your video card fan is spinninga and not full of dust also.
