P-47D-40
« on: April 06, 2008, 10:26:45 PM »
I flew this thing for the first time in a while today. I landed 5 kills in it. The second time around, I had 4 and died. The next one I got 3 kills and landed it. DUDE I'm a P-47D-40 Dweeb. I got in a turn fight with an F6F before I logged and I freaking kicked its butt. I love this thing. Anyone else a dweeb for Jugs?

Nice choice of plane!

I have to agree in each aspect.  :aok
Just dont give up on it if you meet some friction, all it takes is an La7 with a grudge. (To quote Nilsen)  :D

Yeah I do love the Jugs. Occasionally I even make it back to base without the main gas tank hit. I believe the D-40 is the best bombing platform in the game. If I remember my Jug history right it was the first Jug built specifically for dive bombing. Sometimes I just love taking it off from far back and then just listening to that engine as it gets up into thinner air.

Sometimes, we just need to remember what the rules of life really are: You only
need two tools: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the
WD-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

I got in a turn fight with an F6F before I logged and I freaking kicked its butt.

Just don't let that be a habit.  Clubbing baby seals is one thing, but run into anyone flying a more maneuverable plane that knows what they're doing and you'll get shot down.  I fly the Jug a lot, and more times than not I'll pull with a Spit, N1K2, etc. just for the fight.  Against poor pilots I can win.  Against good pilots, I sometimes survive, but more often die.

Doesn't take anything away from the Jug-40, and don't want to convince you to bore and zoom, just make sure your expectations are proper.  We can't all be Blukitty.

I BnZ mostly, but I just know what to do for what. IF its an F6F, I usually take the low merge making him think I'm gonna BnZ so automatically without thinking about it, he follows. I just brought it to an immelan when if he isnt looking. I pull up with 100% flaps and get behind him. After a short burst, wing gone. But as always, not everything goes as planned. I ended up getting into a low-down turn fight with about 10 others. got out of it with 5 kills, its the perfect medium when it comes to fighter.

The P-47D-40 is one fine AC, requires a good hand and self control.  Enjoy it all the time, but will show me in a heartbeat if I'm behind the bird.   :salute :furiousp

This is a good example Angelsandair...Don't turn fight with Dogg when he's flying a F4U-1 while you're in a P-47D-40 :)
