Did anybody see this plane in RL? Perhaps even flown it?

Drooolll :D

But I'd rather go for this one ;)

It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)

Been looking both of these before but haven't really compared them. With a quick look at the specs and prices the T-51 seems to offer more bang for the buck. Spitty's as a kit costs roughly twice what the T-51 costs airworthy. Of course the Spitty is overall nicer (bigger with more hp) but it's vastly more expensive. Both would be extremely nice toys...for someone with required flight experience. And that isn't 40 hours in a C-172.

All spits need to be put into the ground nose first.  :rock

lol. No, no warbird deserves that end... Spits might not be my favorite, but even I would kill to fly one of them!

Flying a smaller-scale replica of a warbird is rediculous.  They look different, they handle different.  Just a dumb concept.

Yes! Someone who agrees with me! I would LOVE a full-scale replica, but when you mess with scale, everything comes out wrong. Very visibly so.

When the cost of a vintage warbird runs several million dollars, this is a great option.  I have seen figures for scale aircraft projects that run nearly the same price as an original.  Mustang engine overhauls were running around a hundred and fifty grand a couple of years ago and the price of the props was about 75,000 bucks.  Looking at those prices, I would probably build a semi scale.  I wouldn't trust my building skills though.

I've seen mini-Mustangs, Spitfires and Corsairs...

Now someone make a mini P-38..

or better yet, a B-24.

I just cant get into the small scale replicas.

What is a Spitfire without a Merlin?

What is a 109 without a DB605?

What is a 190 without a BMW801?

Except for the Thunder Mustang.  Everything's to scale, and it even has a liquid cooled engine with the radiator in the right place.
