I witnessed an attack on an 80 year old man by two youths weilding knives at the Camden City Hall Speedline station back in 1973. Fortunatley it was in January and the old man had a suit and tie on with a heavy overcoat, they stabbed him in the neck but the blade only went in 1/4 inch or so. My buddy and I chased the assailants to the street but they dissapeared right by the White Castle there.
There was a Transit cop in the White Castle but he was busy stuffing sliders down his gullet and didn't see anyone running out of the station.
I used to work in Camden on 6th street, just around the corner from the Campbells soup factory. It's amazing how run down that area was even though it was 2-3 blocks from City Hall.
That was the first job I had where I illegally carried a concealed gun whenever I had to work in the city < photographer >, tensions were still running high from the riots in '71.
Sure was glad to leave that state, was realy strange being told I had a thick California accent by people that said things like wutter and coafee.
