On the CM count we're actually down a bit now.

We had a lot more, but that's beside the point.
Let's play a little what if scenario -- lets say the time for the major event was 7 PM in your local time zone. How many of you would be able to make it -- considering family obligations, work / commute times, etc. While I agree that 11 PM eastern time is not ideal, I personally see 7 pm as a bigger issue. Especially since we're talking about what is a weekend night for the majority of people.
As a CM team we strive hard to factually consider requests. Doesn't matter how it impacts me or my squad personally.
Also note that the current head FSO CM lives in Alaska. The previous one lived on the east coast. They are aware of the issues as they personally have had to deal with them. Again, we try to reach a balance.
And as a squad, we have members in 4 time zones in the US and I believe 2 European timezones. We can't accommodate inner-squad events so we do know what a struggle it is to try to balance an event start time.
Regarding the prove me wrong comment, I can't -- I'm just the geek who works the ahevents.org code.
