Historically Accurate HELICOPTERS
« on: April 10, 2008, 10:07:26 PM »
So far there are only u.s. helicopters in WWII that I can find reliable specs for. They could be used as spotters, or to do supplies/troops.

I think by the guide lines for acceptance into the game it would have to have seen combat & at least at squadron strength. I think the only copter that was used in combat in ww11 & @ unit strength was a Japaneese gyrocopter that dropped depth charges on subs. Still it is a wish list no harm in wishing.

I think it could be cool, I'd have to think of it's roll in this game though.  The problem is I don't think anyone would fly it unless rescue operations were implemented.  The C-47 does supplies more efficiently considering how far you have to go from base to base to resupply.  However, I could see it being useful in resupplying GV's and such.

The problem I see with rescue operations is that people go down so often in such big numbers, there would have to be choppers flying around constantly.  I love flying choppers, but I don't think I'd want to do it constantly like would be required.

I do know they were actually used in Burma dropping supplys and extracting wounded.

But I don't think they actually saw combat, but were used in a support role.
But I'm sure someone else will know more about this than I do.
