WWII-themed horror films?
« on: April 11, 2008, 09:10:19 AM »
I generally find that many low-budget films made today are better than what Hollywood produces these days. This is especially true for certain genres like sci-fi and horror.

I’ve recently seen the new British produced horror flick “Outpost”. It’s pretty low budget; straight to DVD and as for quality of production it is similar to “Dog Soldiers” and “28 Days Later”.

I loved it.

The story is pretty good, but not mindblowingly original. The acting is good … at times great even, and the director gets a lot out of a small budget. I really liked the firefight scenes; the mercs used cover and small-unit tactics, and was for the most part (though not always) believable as professional soldiers. The actors were obviously instructed by someone who knew the “business”.

In many ways “Outpost” is similar to “The Bunker”, another good horror flick if you’re a WWII aficionado.

So, are there other WWII-themed horror flicks out there worth watching?

Thanks for the heads-up!

In my teenage years, I enjoyed F. Paul Wilson's book The Keep http://www.amazon.com/Keep-Adversary-Cycle-Paul-Wilson/dp/0765357054. Avoid Michael Mann's movie adaptation of the book at all costs, it was a disaster.

edit: yeah, the one movie Dux posted!

Try " Castle Keep ". Not strictly a horror film, but very strange movie with some great WWII action.

Zombie Lake,

Its just that good (and if you can find it on DVD, its about a $2.00)

Nothing like Dead Nazi's Zombies intermingled with Nude Chicks throughout!

The first film that came to mind when I read the thread title. Have not read the book. As is often the case, had I done so before seeing the movie I might have approached the film version with a bias towards the original written work and come away very dissapointed instead. But... I didn't.

Lumpy, - just read a horror story (well ghost stuff actually) which had roots in Britain in 1943.
It was creepy, addictive, and mean. But the read was one heck of a ride,,,,,,wwwhhhoooooooo!
From James Herbert (author of i.e. "The Fog" and "Haunted") it's called "The Secret of Crickley Hall" and has the ISBN of 978-0-330-45210-6.

It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)
