When I first started playing I longed for the day that I'd have enough perks to fly a Spit XIV. Then I flew one and promptly died so I saved enough perks to be able to die in it three times (and did). Then I dreamed of the day I'd have enough to try a 262. I finally had enough and compressed/lawn darted on my first sortie so I saved up enough to die in it three times (and did).
Now I normally have between 1500 and 2000 perks in each category. I fly/drive perk rides whenever I want to but my perks never go down. I'll up a Tiger and get several kills, then get killed and earn 10 perks. I'll fly AR234's and, between deaths earn enough perks to off-set the loss. I'll fly Tempests and earn more fighter perks. What we don't have are any real perk sinks. The way they are used, you can earn more perks while using them.
I know I'm not the only one with this (problem). There must be some better or alternate use for perks.
Here's a few I've heard over time that I kind of liked:
Allow you to transfer some of them to a not as fortunate squad-mate.
Perked ord for non-perked planes/vehicles (Tallboy/Grand Slam for the Lancs please... 4x20mm's for the Spit V)
Additional perked rides (or perking some that aren't now)
And here's a few off-the-wall thoughts of my own (I have't thought these through... just tossing them out as they occur to me):
Save your K/D after bailing by using perks to negate the death
Repair damage by using perks (planes, vehicles, field structures, etc.)
Take control of a CV from a higher ranked player by using perks
Improve boost to historic levels in some planes by using perks
