Fix the blanking trees please
« on: April 13, 2008, 09:25:13 AM »
I saw in the latest patch there was a fix with the trees.  I think you broke them.  When trying to drive through the trees I get hung up more often and it seems to be the one tree that doesn't even have branches at ground level.  Also, pine tree branches cannot stop tanks.  Buildings cannot stop tanks.  If they cannot be made to be passable, then could you at least stop it from flipping a tank over.  There is nothing more frustrating than nudging a tree branch and flipping a tiger over after you have got 20 kills.  Fix the freaking sheep too.... :rock

I don't know, but maybe they took some of the "gameyness" out of GVing. Maybe now, you'll have to learn to drive

Took it out? :huh In RL tanks would run the trees over not bounce 50 miles away from them.

Through a group of trees as in between the trees.  Some folks just want to be difficult.....or are just too stupid to get the point.

I know what ToeTag is saying and driving through an area full of trees sucks.  If you never tried driving a tank through a forrest since the last patch shut the hell up.

I noticed the same thing about the new trees.  The difference is I'm not throwing a temper tantrum
when people disagree with my opinion.

Greetings,

While in the real world tanks can shove over trees, there are limits.  Everytime you decide to hit a tree on purpose there are a few things that can happen:

You knock the tree over.
You knock the tree over and mess up the fenders and get yelled at by the PSG
You knock the tree over and get the track caught on the stump and throw a track (not fun, lots of lifting of heavy stuff becomes involved)
You hit the tree and find out it was a bit to big / to well rooted to knock over - which stops the tank dead in its tracks (pun intended!) and throws the people in the turret violently forward.  Normally there are many choice words directed at the driver following such an event.

When you drive into a building there are things that happen also:

You drive through and find a covered and concealed position from which to fight
You drive through, the roof/wall falls and knocks the maingun out of boresight.  So, now you get to rezero/boresight the tank under battle field conditions.
You drive through the wall with the maingun pointed forward and push the maingun out of battery
You drive through the wall to find out the house has a basement - you have entered a turret down position with no way out until the bulldozer or recovery vehicle arrives....not to mention the sudden downard movement and impact on crew members.

Most TC are very unhappy with a driver who consistently runs over trees as it is only a matter of time until something bad happens.

Which I'm sure is why I've never seen a tank ramming something without the turret rearward before. :D

Ok let me reiterate something.  If I am driving through a group of trees and I nudge a tree or its branch it should not stop or knock me over.  If I run over a sheep the same should not happen. If I bump a wall in a building it should  bend not spin me around 180 deg and then send me up side down.  I know allot about tanks and can not remember the last time one was up side down during maneuvers because of a tree bump :rofl.  They drive through all sorts of crap and don't flip.  Flipping is my gripe here.  I've seen Abrams tanks hit an embankment at 1/2 throttle head on and jump in the air like a frog that just got hit by lightning.  It did not hit pine tree branches and stop.

In battle and you are being shot at and you kill a tree and bend a fender your TC will likely thank you for not being a grapefruit.  I'm not talking about running a tree over. Once again read the frigging post tard nutz.  I would love to see a commander say don't worry about the rounds coming in save the tree branch. :rofl  Obviously you have no comprehension about physics. Mass and velocity rule.  Pine trees, sheep and grapefruit cats like you do not.

It's the effectively the same. In reality you'd be looking out for hazards like those MWL described, and although twigs and bushes as those in the game aren't hazards, they substitute for those hazards not in the game.  You don't drive carelessly in reality, nor do you in the game..  In fact the game is really on the forgiving side, we get to drive over rough terrain at full speed as though it was smooth and regular.

The post is about the tree branches.  Not the trunks. Not the terrain. Not the basements in the buildings.  It is not about anything other than the freaking trees stopping or knocking over a tank.   :O
