F4U-4C?!?
« on: April 16, 2008, 12:50:54 AM »
I saw a pic of one, anyone know the specifics of it? It looked like 2 20mms on each wing. But the F2G corsair has the same thing, but they are 2 .50s.  :aok

4C was armed with 4x20mm cannon, as was the 4B.

Neither of which saw combat in WWII, if memory serves.

Nope. None saw any combat in WWII.

Imagine the horror if they did.

Seem to remember there was a post war version built as the ultimate ground attack corsair...the AU-1??

Heavily armored, 10 pylons instead of 8, monstrous carry capacity, and of course 4x 20mm cannons. And once you drop the load, you're in a Corsair instead of an A20 or something!

oh, it looked like the F2g the way the cannons were. Instead of 4 20mms, I thought they were 4 .50s.

I just saw a pic on a website. I was pretty sure they didnt see service though.

Also known as F4U-6. Heavily armored, ultimate mud-mover with a 4000lb payload. :O Single-stage supercharger, so only suited for low altitude. Not terribly fast.

Do you mean prop planes? Or just fastest overall? If just overall, I would say the F4, (With 20mm pods) or the F14, if prop driven planes, then F4U-4 (a, b, or c) or the Hawker Seafury.  :aok

F-22 pawns  :)
Newer technology. F14 is sexier than the F22, I know that much.
