gliders
« on: April 16, 2008, 01:00:36 AM »
theres realy no use for a gunner in a c47 right? well wat if u could tow a glider behind u and piloting it would be your gunner, and wat if ur gunner has a gunner? perhaps he could be light armor in the glider?

its a complex idea that probably wont work

I am not sure what you are promoting, Sir? Armed transports or gliders? I tend to use the C-47 as both transport and glider, killing the engine and gliding it in, great glide characteristics. It would be cool to have a gunner (though not historical I guess), or offload a light vehicle at bases you don't have a spawn to from gliders (but not practical I guess). Just bringing an escort is the only chance, and that is slim. Face it, goons are like the bullseye that is painted on all my vehicles (lol), they attract all the attention (goons are kind of sexy... :O). Stay low and out of site is the best chance. Friend of mine flew C-130's and his were never armed, he said they used terrain and limited electronic measures to survive in the combat zone, seems like good advice to me. (Disclaimer: No, I am not an expert on the subject and my friend has not been flying Hercs for a little less than 7-8 years).

NO, historicaly accurate WWII c47s carried gliders, wat if u had the option to tow a glider behind it? issues, who would be controling it and wat would the payload be, my idea is that it could drop supplies and troops BUT make u a lot slower when towing it

I am aware they towed gliders, as did other a/c, The gliders would require a pilot as well. I said I thought goons being armed was not historical. My point is the only benefit is a quiet ingress, which can be accomplished by cutting engine. That's why I did not understand the post, sorry.

Most C-47's didn't have a gun though so thats what they are going to stick with :(

I also think this sounds like a good idea.

It would be a nice extra role for C-47s to fulfil (not that they don't already have one), but at the very least, in case the glider had to be cut loose early, it would force people to learn how to glide planes efficiently.

Afk for a year or so.  The name of a gun turret in game.  Falanx, huh?
