Would be funny to see someone make a offline mission Me262 vs. Fokker Triplane.

Interesting novelty, but ultimately boring.  Gun fighting in jets and maximum performance props are what will end up getting the most people turned on.  Fire & forget missiles and snail paced biplanes are the boundaries of fun dogfighting's realm.

Well we know it can be done, it was called DOA over in WB land.

Problem is there really are not enough WWI fans out there to pay back the costs with producing and maintaining a WWII setup.
I'd be all in favor of it myself, use AH engine, with WWI planes and some cool terrains (which I know are possible)

But ok for the heck of it lets say Hitech and CO put everything else on the back burner for 6 months to do this.
Is there a huge untapped pool of WWI pilots out there who will sign up and pay back this huge investment?

Because if there is I haven't seen it.
I'd love to see a WWI arena here in AH, I have some very fond memorys of good days in DOA, Flying Circus, Red Baron, etc.

But I just don't see enough people willing to pay for it.

And before someone says targetware, and RS, I went back and looked at the targetware site.
No new news on the big release they were expecting since 2005.
Other than small changes to mods, they have basicly been sitting there for the last 3 - 4 years with no changes.

Your paying 15$ a month now for AH, would you pay another 30$ a month for a WWI sim?
If so how many others do you think would do likewise? 50? 100?

To make it fly you'd need thousands.

No joke I was shot down by a Sopwith Camel while I was in F-86 in the P&D Arena in WBs. A squaddie (batbat)  and I were fooling around prior to an air race and I was zooming in on his plane head on, he pinged me, we collided, and only I died in colli---so he got the kill. :o :o :o

I cannot for the life of me understand why there wouldn't be plenty of takers for a great WWI sim. I mean come on, the Red Baron! Eddie Rickenbacker! Snoopy! ;)

Incredibly romantic period, and the quirks of the aircraft, if modeled correctly, would be half the fascination.

+1.  Great idea in theory.  Doesn't work in reality.

Just a Fokker Dr1 and a Camel will be enough in the dueling arena, or some type of fun event, give it a try

People are saying that we would have to pay.  What HTC could do is after the CT tour is over is reset the CT war and then start working on a WW1 combat tour and then only make the planes available in say, the special events and the deuling arena?

It's a nice idea, but I don't think the average person (let alone the average flight-simmer) would find a WWI combat game too exciting of a proposition.  Granted, I have seen Flight Simulator 2004 squads dedicated to flying modern cargo and fighter planes (as an escort) across Canada in real time :O :huh.  I flew with them for mebbe half an hour in an F-15 before inventing 'engine failure' and lawndarting the nearest airport  ;)

But anyway, my point is that most people don't find the idea/reality of flying pixels very slowly to try and find an equally slow enemy to be overly stimulating, and for those that feel attracted to the 'romanticism' of it, I would like to remind you that it will only be as romantic as your opponent allows it to be - most people aren't going to yell "Good fight, chappy!" or "Jolly good show!" (yes I know I'm British) or "Danke, auf wiedersehen" (sp?) from the cockpit of their computer when you're out of ammo, they'll probably give chase and shoot you down if they can.

So, meh.  I personally wouldn't enjoy taking an hour to fly to the combat zone in a Sopwith Camel very much, and I doubt many other people would either.  I'll stick to my trusty Spitfire XVI, thank you.

Afk for a year or so.  The name of a gun turret in game.  Falanx, huh?
Apparently I'm in the 20th FG 'Loco Busters', or so the legend goes.

The only thing that killed the thriving DOA community was iEn. But then again, its iEn, we see how they handle things. I remember weekly scenarios, flying with the AOD }i{ , and having a blast with a ton of folks every night.I'd even pay another sub for it if its done right.

I set up some big dogfights in "IL2" with the biplanes and pseudo-biplanes available, and I it was fun.  The feeling of the dogfighting is just as "fast" as duelling in Spits, due to the fact that you are working much closer, 100 yards being about open fire range. Surely the limitations on plane speed could be overcome, putting the "frontlines" suffeciently close together, just like the way most fights invove flying only 25 miles in the MA.

I'm not saying that this is something we should put on HTC's plate, I'm just saying WWI doesn't nessecarily suck for flight sims. I'll be ordering OFF when phase3 comes out.

It won't suck.  I'd love to have it, but it's doubtful it'll get enough people's attention to be cost effective anytime soon..
