WWII aviation books
« on: April 19, 2008, 09:13:44 AM »
There are only a few subjects I enjoy reading books about.  I'm a lazy %*&# and would rather watch a movie, but when I get a good WWII aviation book, I can't put it down.  I'm always looking for more.

I have wiped out the local Barnes & Noble and Books a Million of all WWII aviation books and am now going to start ordering.  I want to make sure it's worth it first though.  So here is why this thread.........

I'll post what books I have read (and recommend), could you post what ones you have (and recommend)?

ISBNs avail. on request

Here's mine (in no particular order):

The Few by Alex Kershaw

Woodbine Red Leader by George Loving

Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo by Ted W. Lawson

Dumb But Lucky! by Richard K. Curtis

Fighter Pilot by Paul Richey

Black Sheep One by Bruce Gamble

War Pilot by Richard C. Kirkland (mostly WWII)

The Mighty Eighth by Gerald Astor

An Ace Of The Eighth by Norman "Bud" Fortier

Pacific Alamo by John Wukovits

Eagles Of The Third Reich by Samuel W. Mitcham, Jr.

Fire In The Sky by Eric M. Bergerud

Wings Of Gold by Gerald Astor

Fighter Boys by Patrick Bishop

Next up:
Very Long Range P-51 Mustang Units Of The Pacific War by Carl Molesworth

So, What am I missing? :D

Not WWII, but I read "the right stuff" long before the movie, great read.

Again, not necessarily WWII fight pilot book, but of the same time frame and a must read is
"Fate Is the Hunter" by Ernest K. Gann.  Any of his books for that matter...Enjoy!
