Januarisman!
« on: April 19, 2008, 09:18:50 AM »
It's time for a little break from popping blood vessels about politicians and other nonsense. In keeping with my other posts about little people doing good, like the bar band singer in The Philippines who became the lead singer for Journey, here's another story unfolding.

The Indonesian version of "Idol" is just starting for this year and here is a link to the audition a few weeks ago of a man named... Januarisman. Many of the poorer people in Indonesia have one name, and he's definitely one of the poor people. He earns his living by playing music for tips with his old, beat up, nylon string guitar on trains - a beggar with a wife and new baby.

Here is his audition: Link>>

He's inspired many Indonesians (who would otherwise never bother with the TV show) with his personality and character. Apparently, he's a good guy.

The first song is called "Rasa Yang Tertinggal" (which is Indonesian for "That Tiffie HO'd me!") by a group called ST 12. If you want, you can give the (much weaker) original version a listen here: link>> You'll probably want to stop it after the first chorus.

He made it through the top 24 last week.
Go Januarisman!

I have it on good authority that Januarisman went to Rev. Wright's church his entire life and that Wright helps pick what songs he plays on the trains.

What do you have to say about that?

Oh, and it is not true he had to dodge sniper fire to get on the trains to play.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!
