Laz,

Whats different here?

30 years after we kicked Dowdings Brits out of america we prospered and never looked back. 30 years after most of the sub saharan states became self ruled only their governments live very far up from subsistance survival along with the trillions of dollars\euros\rubbels\yuen\rupie the world has flooded that continent with.

Recently some mines in Nigeria were closed down by their native workers alleging the communist chinese mine managers wouldnt treat them like human beings. The mine managers said they couldn't run the mines efficiently if the miners didn't work up to their standards. The europeans colonising Africa 100 years ago said the same thing about the local natives everywhere they created infrastructure and cities and tried to run businesses. Thats why so many Indians and Chinese laborers were imported.

Zimbabwe\Rhodesia\South Africa prospered economicly before they were returned to native rule..........why do these countries suddenly tank in economic prospairity when the european's who created the infrastructure and economies leave? After all they left everything in place. It should be a simple act of picking up the reins and hanging on to the stampeding economic success. Shouldnt it? It's the simple act of the local population showing up and taking the places of the exiting europeans in all the jobs from bottom to top..............so what happened?

You can find these articles daily from Africa. I guess killing and eating children is OK so long as it's not europeans creating economies and infrastructure in the face of stone age butchery that has never left the "Dark Continent". Butchering children for good luck in getting government positions. Lets see....in america thats called Roe vs. Wade. And this is an Oil Rich sub Saharan nation........

LIBREVILLE, gabon–When the body of 13-year-old Ralph Edang N'na was found drained of blood and with gaping wounds in his genitals, chest and neck last month, many in Gabon thought it was politicians who had ordered his killing.

The murder of children and young adults, whose organs are eaten or used to make magical amulets, has increased in recent years in the oil-rich central African nation. Campaigners say some Gabonese politicians use the black magic rituals to boost their chances of winning lucrative government posts.

With elections to municipal councils on Sunday, many fear a spate of gruesome child murders.

Every week, mutilated bodies are discovered in the capital Libreville, despite police patrols. Anxious parents keep a close eye around schools so children aren't snatched.

"It's before elections and ministerial reshuffles that the vilest crimes are committed and the capital empties of certain kinds of politicians who go to the interior to carry out witchcraft," said pastor François Bibang, a member of the Association to Fight Ritual Crimes (ALCR).

In ritual killings, which still take place in several African countries, victims' body parts and blood are used in ceremonies to bestow social success and political power.

The ALCR says February alone saw 12 such killings in Gabon.

"Unfortunately, this practice seems to be spreading again in Gabon," said Jean-Elvis Ebang Ondo, who founded ALCR after his 12-year-old son was kidnapped, killed and mutilated in 2005.

The government set up a National Observatory for the Rights of Children in fall 2006 to implement a UN children's charter that enshrines, among other things, the right to protection from abuse.

Gabon is one of sub-Saharan Africa's largest oil producers but most of its citizens live in poverty.

Omar Bongo, who has ruled Gabon since 1967, used oil funds to weave a web of patronage which has created bitter competition for lucrative political jobs.

Ondo decried "the silence of the state," – a penal code approved in January omitted any mention of ritual crimes. No clear figures exist for the number of such victims.

Another activist, Frederic Ntera Etoua, tallied 290 such killings in the jungles of Ogooue-Ivindo province where Ralph Edang N'na died.

Parliamentary speaker Guy Nzouba Ndama opened a session of the assembly on March 3 by denouncing ritual crimes by politicians.

But no politician has been convicted for such crimes. An attempt to prosecute a legislator from Gamba region last year failed after he claimed parliamentary immunity.

Psychologist Philippe Ndong of Libreville University traces the rise in ritual murders to 2001.

"As legislative elections approached, mutilated bodies were discovered around the country," he said. "An 8-year-old girl was snatched in Ndolou department and killed in Mouila. The man allegedly responsible was a candidate to Parliament who entered the government after this crime."

You can't be serious.

That is a grossly over-simplified statement. Look into the history of some of these countries struggling to survive. To say that some of these country's people are better off as 2nd and 3rd rate citizens is wrong. Many countries in Africa were dominated by European and Euro-Asian empires. They were ruled for hundreds of years being exploited for everything they had.

Funny, I bet you say the same things about the U.S.A. everytime you go to Safe Way and buy Icecream.....Geronimo was only a freedom fighter and man does this icecream taste good but you know we totaly abused the redman and stold a whole continet from him by opressing him and rapeing his natural resources. Why the greatest evil on the planet is the weastern european whiteman. Living in grass huts in the mud is morally superior and roasting your enimies slowly over coals as a cultural sport is OK by me if the noble american redman still roamed the north american continent freely....man this icecream tastes good.

Hey in the last 30 years butchering children for body parts and blood to use in magic rituals has come back into voge all over sub Saharan africa. It was one of the S.O.P. african cultural practices the evil white europeans denied those noble savages. I was reading an article where an orphanage in africa was selling terminaly ill children to local witch doctors for body parts and blood while they were still alive. I beleive I read that one on Reuters a few years back.........

When you read early Muslim cronicles of sub Saharan africa, the descriptions boil down to stone age savages who regularly butcher each other for sport, food, slaves and witchcraft supplies. Sounds like american indians and how the different tribes related to each other. Pass the Icecream........

Saint I'm being obtruse about Rhodesia=Zimbabwe....everyone knows they are one in the same. Western Liberals ignore what Mugabe and his stone age supporters did to the country after the west forced Ian Smiths government to unilateraly hand over a first world infrastructure and economy to stone age savages.

No major city or industrial infrastructure on the african continent was conceived, built and maintained by the indigenous stone agers. It all happened by western europeans or muslims building them brick by brick nail by nail. Every time the systems are repatriated, they either fall apart or are never maintained at levels that western governments would not condem and close down for human health and safety reasons in the U.S. or the EU.

TentyFo should catch a plane to Khartome, Adis Ababe, Nirobe, Joville, Entebee or any sub Saharan city by himself and walk out into the city and try to find a hotel or a cab somewhere. In some cities he will simply be robbed by crowds of children who smell like open sewers. In other cities he will be shot on sight because he looks like a westerner. In other cities he will be held against his will and killed for his body parts and fluids. Sub Saharans beleive europeans have lucky magic and if they can drink their blood, smear their body fat on themselves or eat body parts the lucky magic will be theirs.

Some just like killing westerners any chance they can..........so if you want to bring first world economies, infrasturcture and morality to africa, sure you have to ride some serious herd on the locals to keep civilisation running on the Dark Continent.......but then TwentyFo likes livin in da USA and blinding us with his kombaya dreams of africa via the Discovery Channel.

Errm... just to be clear: I was laughing AT lazs, not the other way 'round... just sayin' :)

As I stated earlier, my family has been on the African continent for a couple of generations, they lost most of their property in Rwanda & Congo in the 60s and again  in the late 80's... you don't have to sell me anything when it comes down to how they [the locals - ed] manage their own land.  (but it's not nice to say it out loud... and there's a choice for words to be done)

There isn't any.

I don't think this is one of those times that no news is good news.
