First American PILOT to down a German aircraft was the P40/P38 thing with the Fw200 (I think?)
The P26 was used by the French during the German Blitz of Europe.... Thus, the first American built plane to down a German.

The P-38 was the first American plane flown by and American pilot to shoot down an enemy. It was a FW off of Icland or Greenland....one of thoes cold places..
