Center mounted cannon sounds

I can't seem to get the hub cannon sounds to work for ANY model aircraft.  For the last three months I've been almost entirely in FWs however I don't recall the problem when I took out the P39s after they first arrived.  So sometime between introduction of the P39 and the last patch I lost the hub mounted cannon sounds.

I've tried different sound packs and I'm at a loss.

All other cannon (wing mounted and pods) produce the correct sounds.

Any ideas?

Turn your head/view. It seems that tha game won't allow you to hear, loudly at least, anything directly in front of you. Hub cannons, therefore, don't work (in default veiw forward that is), but cowl guns do as they are slightly offset.

Well.. I did turn the head as you suggest and I hear the hub cannon with the head turned.  But this is something new....not to be able to hear it looking straight forward.

I've always been able to hear them before.... and my squaddies say they can hear the hubs fine....

4510, after our discussion about this in the game, I checked our soundpack for this issue.  All is good here.  Maybe u have a curupt sound.res and sound folder?  Maybe I will upload my sound.res file for ya and create a link here.

BTW, I just reuploaded the sketch sound pack with all the updates and tweaks.

Thanks.... tried your sound.res.  Still didn't make a difference. (sigh)

Symptoms are still the same.  If I turn my head I hear the cannon.  If I look straight ahead I do not.  I hear the cowl mounted MGs just fine.  But no cannon.  I can see the rounds going out etc.

I think it's the game itself, not the soundpack. Happens to everyone I believe.

Your wearing headphones?

If your wearing headphones go to desktop and select your sound and set your speakers to HEADPHONES!

If your sound setting are set to 5.1 or something such then your HEADPHONES will not give you FULL surround sound so you will not hear somethings!

Had the same issue and tinkered for awhile then it HIT me!

Surround sound does NOT work with HEADPHONES!

Unless you have (EXPENSIVE?) SURROUND sound type headphones!

Pretty sure if you change your setting to HEADPHONES, and your using them, you will get FULL SOUND, including nose cannon sounds!

Actually wrag is on the right track.  AH uses Directsound api for 3d positioning.  If u trying to use 5.1 and such, it throws the 3d positioning off.  ex. the EAX 2.0 and 3.0 u can't use for AH.

Thanks to all for suggestions and tips.

While I don't use headsets... it was the 5.1 thing.  When I changed my sound setup back to 4.1 I have my forward hub cannons now.

For my Soundblaster Card, I have to open my Creative Labs EAX Control Panel and then do the speaker setup.

WTG Guys, I too was trying to help 4510 in game, I would have never guessed that. (Makes note to self, to check that razzle frazzle speaker setting)

Yeah.... who would have thought..... :O

And I don't even remember changing my setup to 5.1 when I was doing some "system" maint a couple weeks back.

I am soooo glad I didn't start reinstallation etc.
