I miss the old days when at McDonalds you walked up to the big window and ordered your food because there was no eat-in area or drive thru.

As kids, the folks would take us to A&W root beer and everyone would get an 8 oz mug.  Thank goodness we lived right on Lake Michigan because this was the days before air conditioning in cars.

Roast Beef rocks....I am happy they are thriving as a business.

jakal.. that is one of my favorite songs.

You had a '61?  I had a ratty '59 with a pumped up 292 and a four speed with hurst linkage... great times.

Lazs, I didn't own a vette, but my first car in 1975 that I bought was a 1961 Olds Dynamic 88 that had a 442 dropped in it (by the previous owner) I put glass packs on it and drove it to town ("town" consisted of a population of 660 people) and got pulled over at midnight by a sheriff. I was 15 with only a farmers permit.  :lol  He made me drive it back home and followed me. (My mom had divorced and she was out of town)  That car had some get-up-and-go with that 442 in it! Fond memories.
Here is a pic of me at age 15 installing speakers in the back of the Olds, yeah, I had hair then...:D

ahhh the memories there....my folks used to take us kids out to MacDonalds on Friday night...walk up joint like that...had bench seats outside along the sides...and the hamburgers were 15 cents!
Remember they used to have the actual number sold posted on their sign...now it says "Billions and Billions" or some such...

Remember the commercials on tv?  "McDonalds, where you can get change back from your dollar"?  Small fry, small drink, one regular hamburger for less than a buck with tax?

Also, after church on Sunday Nights, mom would get a couple of big bags O'burgers...and she'd let us eat the fries on the way home because they'd get cold otherwise....no microwaves back then.

First it was "Mr S" on Lewis Avenue in Waukegan, Then it was "Henry's" down on Washington...after they went out of business mom actually ponied up for Burger King.

Wow...I'm OLD and it is the SUXXOR!

PS-- Most kids I know did what we all called the "Chicago Hamburger".  You pulled 10 to 15 of the longest french fries out and put them on top of the hamburger meat and then put ketchup on top of that before closing the bun.

(Image removed from quote.)

Before McDonalds.

Was fun to see a tray hooked onto the drivers side door with burgers and drinks.

Bet some of you kids never been to a Drive In movie either. In a station wagon with pillows and blankets in back. Sharing the bottled Coke, Popcorn and Good-n-Plentys.

Todays kids are spoiled.

Oh well... you missed out.

Mac

actually i have been to a drive in movie plenty of times. There is one still operating about 45 min from my house. You get to see 2 movies for 5 bucks. I would rather go there.

You can still get the old fashioned "drive in" experience at Sonic.  Window trays and everything.

Some people say Sonic has gone downhill, but I think it's just a matter of where you go.  The ones here in Hot Springs, AR do just fine, thank you!

It's mainly a southern thing.  I can't imagine a "drive-in" burger joint doing big business anywhere it snows or gets really cold in the winter.  Who wants to eat in their car when your fries got stoney cold on the way to your car?

Yeah...definitely a southern thing.

Sonic has KILLER Jalepeno Poppers and Onion Rings!  They come to your car at about 14,000 degrees Celcius and you are chowing it down with a Cherry/Lime Ade...then, while other chains are "sizing down" their burgers & buns, Sonic is still as big as ever!

Oooops...I gotta go...wife says UPS just brought my case of Boetjes Hot Brown Mustard...gonna be German Night tonight so I gotta go make German Potato Salad!

They aren't that great around here. Not horrible, but not some where I'd want to eat very often.

they are good enough for a milkshake, a banana split, or a sundae when the weather gets hot and you hankering for something sweet and cool.

Yeah....had a`61. Loved it.
Had a guy that had moved to our little town and had been there for a few years.
He was known as a master trader/buyer. He took no prisoners when it came to anyones pocket book. :)
He did some business with my Dad and he took a liking to me for some reason and I could always get some great deals from him. I think it had something to do with my "Kiss no butts for anything" attitude. It was pretty rare in this little town.
He pulled into my Dad`s place one day in the `61 Vette. He walked in , threw me the keys and said he had brought me something.
His brother had bought the Vette new in Cali and hardly ever drove it. It stayed mostly stored in his garage. Never been off pavement.
My friend got it from him and brought it to Texas. He said it "fit" me. :)
It had 14000 miles on it when I got it. I ended up giving him either $1300.00 or $1400.00 for it. :) Can`t remember which.
Was the only car that I have ever owned that I didn`t get tired of.
Was just as much fun to drive everytime as it was the first.
Totaled it out eventualy. Still miss that ride.

True, I do enoy their fountain drinks on a regular basis.

I'm a little disappointed to have seen that. I'm not particularly fond of Wendy's food.  Their commercial advertisements, on the other hand, are by far the funniest I've seen (well, them & DQ).

But my boss brings me a frosty if she thought I was having a bad day. Those are tops, and so was my boss.  :aok
