Howdy all.
I’m knew to AH, but have flown since 1999 in Fighter Ace 1.5, Fighter 2.0, Fighter Ace 2.5 and then WarBirds with a Mac when my old PC couldn’t keep up with the graphics requirements.
In Fighter Ace I ultimately ended up in what they called the “Realistic Arena.” Flight models were as real as they could make them and there were cockpits instead of just a cross hair in the center of the computer screen as with their other arenas.
Several things became immediately apparent. I immediately felt “sensory deprived” since the instrument panel blocked 60% plus of the forward view. Secondly, I kept falling out of the sky trying to recover from spins. (All other Fighter Ace arenas were stall limited.) Lastly, the arena was populated with significantly more mature pilots.
Below I have listed the different combinations that I have seen over the years in various arenas and in special events. (Most were full plane sets except #7, and all had cockpit views only.)
1. Normal icons and radar with stall limiter option. (AH)
2. Normal Icons and radar with no stall limiter available.
3. Normal Icons with tower only radar with no stall limiter.
4. Friendly icons only with normal radar and with no stall limiter.
5. Friendly only icons with tower only radar with no stall limiter.
6. No icons with “all seeing” radar available in flight (Above 300 feet AGL) with no stall limiter.
7. No icons with no in flight radar and no stall limiter (There was a red “whisker” on the map on your own icon pointing to nearest enemy activity and a limited range "padlock nearest enemy" capability regarless of whether they were in sight or not.)
The ones that were the most fun and realistic to fly for me were numbers 4 and 6.
As I said I a new guy on the block in AH, but it surely would be a kick to fly in Allies vs. Axis with friendly only icons, no stall limiter, and a full plane set.
Respectfully,
