Weapons Separator or Identifier?
« on: April 26, 2008, 04:42:03 PM »
Is there a way for the programmers to specify as to which set of weapons/bombs is being used via the HUD?

Example: In my beloved Mossi (which, imo, is incorrectly modeled in more ways than one) when carrying four of the 500lb bombs, 2 of the are internal and 2 are external but when they are shown in the “secondary” weapons indicator there is no differentiation.  Hitting the –backspace- only shows the “B50” designation.  Would it be possible to insert an “i” for internal and an “e” for external somewhere in the indicator?

Fwiw, since I know the Mossi very well, I know the first “B50” after my cannons is the internal and the second “B50” is the external.  But in aircraft people are not familiar with, it would help out greatly if there were some type of indicator.

Thanks.

I do believe the Mossie carries 4 internal and 4 external for a total of 8.

I agree with the idea but I think time could be spent better coding other things first.

You are thinking of the A20.  The original poster is correct about the Mossie loadout.

So that would amount to "B50I" and"B50E"?

This would be nice on both the mossie and a20.
Currently flying as "Ruger"

Exactly.  That way it would be far easier to tell which set of bombs you were about to drop.  The itentifier could only be "x" on external for all I care and no indicator for internal.

Early on when I was learning the Mossi (and other aircraft), I'd want to drop the external bomb load first and when the secondary weapons button was pushed I'd get a "Bombay doors not open" message because I had unknowingly selected the internal bomb load (which requires the bombay doors to be open) and not the external.

I just think it would be easier if their was a visual identifier.  I have no idea on how difficult it is regarding the programming issues.

i like this idea.  When im in an A20 i usually drop wing bombs first.  But ive learned to just switch one time and i have external.

hit backspace once for internal, twice for external. pretty simple. pretty sure the HUDs in WW2 were not advanced enough to display which weapon was selected.

Go test that and report back to us on the results.

Or I'll tell you the results now.  It is inconsistent between the three aircraft

Now we want HTC to code for bad memory?  Not to mention, as NOT stated, "HUD... What's a HUD?"  ( a quote from every WWII pilot asked about coding a HUD.)

My original post mentioned that I have no issues with knowing the order of the bombs on the Mossi as I fly it quite often am quite familiar with it (it is my favorite).   ;)

It is different between aircraft, hence, me suggesting the identifier.  If I dont have to do another pass in a Il-2 due to me not having the correct bomb load selected, I just might be able to get back into fighter cover and out of striking distance from that lurking Bf-109.   :)

Also, ... I mentioned a "HUD" becasue I knew EVERYONE knows what I was mentioning.  I suppose I could have said "dashboard", or "intrament panel", or "gauges", or "those dials", or "those rounds things with needles that rotate", or "ammo counter/weapons indicator", etc.  But I figured the acronym for "heads up display" would suffice.  :aok
