Friday Night Snapshot AAR (Long With Images)

Hi All,

Part 1.......

Just thought I would put together a little AAR of the mission from my perspective. I went awol for a few minutes before the takeoff (Disco) and missed my assignment. I rejoined about 30 seconds before we were due to leave. After taking off from CV62 I formed up on Dinger's group and we headed south from Sector 11,11,2 towards A4 gaining Alt all the time. As we passed through 20K in Sector 11,10,2 we turned West We continued grabbing alt and turned North West as we entered sector 10,9,9 and shortly North East to head back towrds Sector 11,10,1. As we passed through 29K we saw the American Dogs about 1K below us.

Releasing Dropg Tanks we prepared to engage. After a few passes on the Yanky swine without so much as a single hit the chatter over RW was intense (Gotta get my transmit fixed)   "snafu's in trouble" I heard and the familiar cackle of "Better get that Bandit off your tail" rang in my ears (Thanks Khaalid2). a quick "Check 6" saw 3 bastiges homing in for the kill

Superior Japanese Tactics eventually saw 2 run away and I was able to turn the situation into a neutral scenario were we came a little bit to close on more than one occasion.

Part 2........

The engagement was not without it's problems though. Taking a fuel hit and losing one of my cowl guns. Much more alternate gaining and losing the advantage finally saw me on his 6.

From then on the fight moved lower & lower towards the ocean. Finally I was convinced I had forced him into a mistake when one of his wings appeared to strike a wave.

But he recovered and attempted to cut across and make his escape. As he passed infront of me I let him have it

Surely this time he was down. But the guy must have had God as his co pilot because he completed his move and the advantage was lost. We made a few more half hearted passes but I think we were both hurting bad and after the last pass I decided to let him make his escape.

Losing fuel fast I attempted to RTB to the carrier.

After a successful landing I was going to grab A PT but heard Regurge call for help a few miles from the CV. Weapon reload was complete and I reckoned with the drop tank I would have enough fuel so I upped again. I saw Regurge pass below me and spotted 3 F6F's in pursuit. They gave up there chase and turned on me. I forgot I still had my DT and was no match for the American Hardware. <S> Frodo and Friends.

As I floated earthwards in my Chute "Daddog" Announced the end of the frame.

WTFG Guys Incredible event.

<S> guys, that was great fun.

I am pretty sure I am the guy that smoked you early.  Somebody got my wingtip a bit later, but I escaped and tried to limp home.  I eventually lost it on the recovery and snap-rolled into the fantail, but by that time whoevery had winged me was dead, so I never did find out who it was.  That second pic looks like Frodo and I diving in on ya.    Damn that was fun!
