109K-4 Radiator Questions
« on: June 02, 2008, 10:21:56 AM »
I have a few questions of the working of the 109's radiators and how they take damage.

1.Is the radiator consisting of 2 radiators( the bulges on the wings) or do both of them work together.
2.If they are seperate can the 109 fly without one of them operating.

These are a few questions which could belong in the wishlist forum but for the sake of only making one post I'll put them here. These are assuming that the 109 has two radiators that are seperate from each other.

1. Could we make so that if one radiator was knocked out the other one would work but there would be consequences such as wep being used up faster and cooling down slower.
2. Could we show the damage of two seperate radiators in the damage chart.
3. If one radiator can't successfully keep the engine within usable temperatures could it at least slow down the overheating of the engine if one radiator is knocked out.

Feel free to answer any or all of these questions.

I cannot, but there are a few JG11 guys that might, after work.

Maybe it's a secret?  Seriously, hang for one of VonMessa's JG11 folks to show up.  Good group of fellows that should get you an answer.  As a suggestion, I think you might find a more helpful audience posting in the Help Forum or the Aircraft & Vehicles forum.

IIRC When 1 radiator is hit they are both affected as the engine is not able to cool down quick enough.

He did. He waited 46 minutes, before getting impatient that nobody has answered his question.

According to Krusty the 'hitbox' (I know thats not the correct term for Aces High, but I don't know how else to describe it) is not on the wings. I  always assumed they were but I'm not sure. What I do know for sure, however, is that you can't run on a single radiator in Aces High. I'm not sure if you would have been able to in reality.

The later model 109s had a shut-off valve for each radiator which the pilot could use if it was damaged.  This would give the pilot enough time to get home before the engine got too hot.  This feature is not in the game however.

P.S. 109s also had a fuel line which could pump fuel onto the windscreen to wash away oil.

If I remember correctly, Spitfires had a similar feature?

Well if he had waited only 45 minutes I'd have called him impatient but 46...

If there were 2 radiators, they'd both circulate liquid in the same cylinders therefore the 2 radiators would become interconnected and one.
I wouldn't change it though. This way the K4 drivers will eventually have to stop running away when hit :)

Keeping the rest of the damage model as-is, I'd love to have the wing radiators on spits, 109s, and the belly radiators on huricanes, p51s, and so forth, be actual targets. If hit, you get the exact same damage code as a normal radiator hit, only the graphics start leaking from that spot instead of the prop itself (which makes no sense!).

I wouldn't mind planes with 2 radiators being able to cruise on reduced power without burning up totally (i.e. maybe minimum settings will keep it pegged red, but won't kill it?)

I like Krusty's idea of you being able to fly on reduced power settings with 1 radiator while full power will overheat the engine and will kill the engine.
