So I've booked the trip ($758.00 for 4 of us via Alaska Airlines-driect flight from Seattle...I love their rewards program  :rock ) and secured a rental car for the week ($120.00)

I'm hoping some of you will comment on my short list below and my concerns.

We'd like to stay away from the downtown Waikiki area....maybe.  It could be that the Hilton right on the beach at Waikiki could be it for us with kids who like to be entertained 24/7....but part of me wants to get off the beaten path and retire each night at something more secluded. We are renting a car.

I hear the east side of the island gets more rain in Feb. and the West side tends to stay drier. True or not?

Here are some potentials we're looking at:

Waimanalo on the Beach: Concern here is rainy weather.
Waimanalo Oahu Hawaii Vacation Rentals - Home with Two Distinct Units

A more detailed view of the property and my favorite so far.

Waianae beach house: Concern here is its quite a drive to Honolulu.
Waiainae Vacation Rental - House

Ewa cottage on the beach: Concern here is the airport proximity.
Oahu Hawaii Cottage Beach - Cottage

Kaneohe Condo Rental: Concern here is it's in the mountains, concern is that its 10 miles from nearest beach! Definately "getting away from it all"Rent GreatRentals Kaneohe Apartment 163021, Ideal for Golf, Fishing Vacations

Kailua cottage: Concern here is its small, and 7 min walk to beach
Rent GreatRentals Kailua Cottage 150806, Ideal for Golf, Fishing Vacations

Opinions welcome!

I don't know if you have a timeshare or not...but we stayed at a Diamond Resorts place down in Daytona for a week...and it was top notch!

Here's some in Hawaii:

My last trip out for business I stayed at the Prince Kuhio with an ocean view room but it was pricey. I think it was $269 a night but the room was kick butt and the service was outstanding. The best part of it was it was close to all my customers but it was a heck of a drive out to Ko Olina to visit one of my friends and my niece.
