Large Scenarios
« on: November 20, 2001, 08:32:00 PM »
For the future large scenarios such as Big Week will regristration be run the same?

The regristrations seemed complete even before I knew they began, so unfortunatly no JG2 squadmembers made it in.  Was it my fault?  Sure it was.  I didn't pay close enought attention.  I cannot scan the boards all the time and I do miss out on things, so I guess my question is:

The people that did not have a chance to 'get in" on this Big Week scenario, can maybe there be a chance they can have alittle bit of an edge next time as far as the next regristration is concerned?

I dont know how many people were surprised that the registration was closed so quickly.  I know I was.  Hey!  ya snooze, ya loose!

The squadron of JG2 would of been perfect for this scenario. Heck, JG2 is one of the squadrons!  :)

Just a thought that maybe people that did not have a chance to register for this scenario in time, may have a priority for the next one.

If not, then I would like to sign up for the next one right now! Put my name down!!  :)

Thanks!

Rock:  Ya see that Ensign, lighting the cigarette?
Powell: Yes Rock.
Rock: Well that's where I got it, he's my son.
Powell: Really Rock, well I'd like to meet him.
Rock:  No ya wouldn't.

Yeah Swager.. it's a probelm with no really good solutions. Any way ya go about it, some people aren't gonna get in, or get in on a squad they didn't like or end up flying a plane they didn't want.'

One thing we're considering seriously is leaving the registration open for longer, and not filling the slots right away. After the registration closes, all pilot handles along with their preferences will be fed into a randomizer that takes everything into account and spits em back out into the roster.

There are problems with that system too, however. Again, some people wont get in, some won't get the rides they want, and squads could get totally scrambled. But at least folks won't feel like there's some kinda race to get signed on quickly. Is the trade-off worth it? I dunno yet. We're considering everything and I'm pretty much gonna be going with what y'all think about it and what suggestions you can give.

Another good point you bring up is consideration for folks that didn't make it. Based on a suggestion from Toad (who took it from some kinda hunting licence system somewhere), I do want to implement some kind of points system. Didn't make it in? 4 points. Made it in but got yer 3rd choice? 3 points. And so on. Get three points but miss two frames? Subtract 2 points. These numbers will get fed into the randomizer with yer handle and will affect the way it sorts out the slots - giving more consideration to those with higher points. Points would be accumulated and retained (kept on file, so to speak) and used in the next scenarios... and so on.

Anyways... just one of the ways I've been thinking about. I definitely want to hear any ideas anyone has.
