weeping over 205
« on: April 04, 2001, 04:56:00 AM »

I just realized, my favorite plane will never be the same again. The Italian beauty has turned old and grey.

No new oil or sparkplug change will resurrect you.
Not even changing to a higher octane can make you the plane you once was.

In the good ol´1.03 you where a threat to both the Hog and the spit, The NIK even feared your presence.

Nowadys you act like the mechanic had poured a can of jam in the controls.

your 20mm are cursed by an the angry US-God.
Your wings been replace by ricepaper, made in Hongkong.

Still I love you and fly you every day.......

?

I still find the 205 to be a very hard opponant in the hands of an avergae flyer or better.
I haven't flown one in a while but I wouldn't hesitate to in a moment. The visibility just kind of isn't as good as the Yak or many aircraft

I'm going to have to say the 205 is still as deadly as ever, you just can't fly it like a Spitfire or a N1K2. It's an energy fighter, the slender wings lends itself to that type of fighting. It's not very fast, but it can move when it needs to.

a not Italian 205 lover, I admire you!

205 was always modified, his performance compared to others planes hare always different. Why? don't know.

The 205 1.03 version was very close to what I have always hear about his quality VS others planes (spit's in most case), anyway 205 is not a simple AC to master even in RL from what real pilots told me.

The gunnery model is a lost cause, we will never see a real Breda 12.7mm (or an acceptable damage model from these ammunitions). I fly 202 and even at 20y I need more than 1-2 sec of fire to see damage on the enemy AC, even if I shot in the cockpit!!!(pilot's not injured).

The 20mm hare a little better now but you need to go 300y or less to get a kill (spit's get kill's from +500y easy).
For the 20mm we have the Luftwaffe fans that can give us an hand.

I lost the hope to see a "real" 205 or a "real" 12.7mm gun, too low the interest on this AC to push HTC on a more "accurate" model.

I have AP and HE Breda 12.7mm if someone need to get # from these ammunition just send me the money to perform an analisys   .
{ AP manufactured by S.M.I. Stato Maggiore Italiano 943, and HE manufactured by B.P.D. # not visible   }

anyway, get kills in 205 and 202 is a very beautiful sensation.

And again, thanks to HTC for give us these 2 Italians AC never modelled before.

<----has 3 kills of buffs (1 b26, 1 tbm 1 b17) in a single sortie with a 202.

And yes, the guns are 9mm popguns.

But I still like the 202 and 205. Coolest camo, logo and pingpingpingping sounds on enemy targets.Great lil' plane

The 205 is a very good plane. Nothing wrong with it. Good firepower (more than the 190A-5 and the Dora, thanks to the greater 20mm rate of fire), plenty of ammo. Fast at medium-high alt. You need only some hundred sorties and a lot of patience.

These are the 2 fundamental characteristics that aere still missing in ours beloved Macchis:

1-   Starting fom series XI (C202 AS/CB) the Macchi C202 were equipped with 2underwing strong points for jettisonable fuel tanks ( 100 or 150 liters) or for bombs (50, 100 or 160 kg.).

2-   C202 and C205 Breda SAFAT 12.7 mm were equipped with explosive shells.

Hey guys AH does model the Breda 12.7mm HE shells, really honest. But its called something different in here, it goes by the name of MG151/20 HE ammo.

BTW to all the very sensitive ones out there its just a joke.

Crabo....
you know my thoughts about it, we've talked about changing plane in this MA, cause 205 was not more competitive with other planes....but here I am, flying 205 again, and i cant stop it (except flying 190 too  ).
Anyway, the more  I fly 205, the best I can appreciate the character of a wonderful plane, and results are coming better day by day.
Proud to be a 205 flyer ... see u in MA in a Macchi for long time
