I could easily wish him well if his only failing was trying to foist a dangerous political policy on America. Politics is politics and there can be room for honest disagreement, etc. However, the entire Chappaquiddick thing appalls me to the core. It is readily apparent that his cowardice and desire to avoid responsibility for his initial actions (potential DUI and being with a woman other than his wife) led to reckless driving that put the car in the water.
Further, once that happened he delayed for hours calling political minders and damage control folk to save his bellybutton and his political career instead of medical first responders for Mary Jo Kopechne. His claimed head injury at that time was used to justify how he responded so poorly to getting help (but oddly, not so poorly where help for his career was concerned). Forensic evidence suggests that she was alive for several hours breathing from an air pocket before the air ran out.

Again, I can’t really wish him well. I think of Teddy and all I feel is disgust. Can’t really wish him poor – not my place to judge his future mortality, as such. Others have far more right to that. In a perfect world he will finally find himself accountable to some higher power.
