i listen to more rap than anything, but i have noticed that alot of songs especially from metallica have LOTS of bass in them, and sound great in my car :)

Speaking of bass players, Stu Hamm (Satriani band and Many others), and Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers) deserve honorable mentions as kick but bass players...oops almost forgot the guy from Iron Maiden whos name I can't remember right now (Steve Harris maybe?).
