« on: June 02, 2008, 10:09:12 PM »
The other day I was drining a m8 and I saw a b25H low, so i shot a AP round at him(only type I had) right in the cockpit area but nothin happened. Also the same thing happened when I was in a Panzer and shot a low il2 with a AP round

Yep, you have to knock APs against something useful, not just empty volumes.

Not really I had the same thing happen the other day. B25 came in OTD trying to kill me and I poped him with two HE shells from a M8 right in the nose. He missed with his melon tosser and came back around and I poped him again in the nose and he was sent to the tower. Thing is you have to remember the M8 has a 37mm shell just like the mned ack guns.

First off, you probably missed - I have in last 4-5 days camped runways with GV's mostly M8s and M4's. M4 I had 79 kills where only 10 being GV kills rest air kills. I use the M4 because of its ability to aim higher for planes, which i normally shoot at.

AP or HE will take a plane down regardless where you hit it. HE however will blow a plane up on a runway if you get it close enough, AP however you need a direct hit somewhere to take a piece off.

M8 same setup, hit the wing with AP it comes off, or HE near it on a runway it goes boom.

I've killed numerous planes with the main guns in Panzers, Tigers and Shermans.  I only ever carry AP rounds and I've never had a single round fail to kill the plane as long as I actually hit it.  Usually it's someone coming in straight at me so I hit them square in the nose.  Poof.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

every time I hit a plane with any tank round it goes bye bye.

T34 is my favourite for doing this,  nice quick turret and better elevation.

B25 is one tough cookie though,  hit one 3 times with an osty the other night and not even a scratch.  Seen them take up to 5-6 hits.

AP Is best to hit the planes in the air, being AP flies MUCH straighter - but learning to hit planes are a different story, lots of practice.

HE However can be used, but you have to "lob" it at the plane, its much better to take a split loadout if your attacking an airfield for this cause.

I always Use HE to take out planes on runways or ord bunkers, and still have AP for Tanks outa the VH or even aircraft taking off.

Just remember if you spit a HE close to a plane taking off it will blow it up. AP requires direct hit, but if the planes on the ground it will most likely take the tail, wing off and plane still alive.

I can vouch for the fact that DPQ5 had 2 AP rounds impact a B-25H and with no effect....

I was the target.   :D
