Forum oddity
« on: June 03, 2008, 06:41:19 AM »
I had noticed this just before the forums went down again, but I'm still seeing this so I figured I'd mention it. When I log in and try to post, I keep getting the "An error has occurred" message, "The last posting from your IP was less than 30 seconds ago. Please try again later.", even though I haven't posted anything. Any guesses on this one, Skuz?

Okay, this happens only if I'm not logged in to the forums, log in, and then try to post, and it seems to happen each time. HTH. Maybe this is a browser issue, but I currently post on 4 different forums, and I only encounter this here.

I am confused.  If you are not logged in, then you are a guest and "guests" cannot post on the forums.

Are you getting the error when you are logged in?

I do: I read a topic while being "guest". I decide to answer, log in, type a few words, hit submit and - "Your last posting from that IP happened less than 30 seconds..."

It does not happen every time though. But I'm pretty shure nobody else had that IP 30 seconds earlier ;)
For now I do believe it happens only when I log in first time on a day, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

Exactly what Lusche posted. I read a thread as a guest (Firefox is set to delete cookies each time I close it), log in to the forums, and attempt to post, where I get the aforementioned error message each time on the first post I make after logging in.

<edit>It did this earlier today when I posted, but not now. Browser or forums?

Hmmm, I have still been tweaking, but that should not be happening.  Let me know if that behavior continues after today.   Thank you sirs <S>.

The same thing was happening to me.  I think it reads logging in as a post so you have to wait to post after logging in.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

Must be something else in addition to that, cause it doesnt happen every time.

It may be related to the errant posts that cannot be cleared as still new.  I had another issue to deal with and got it all cleared up so I can focus on those.  It may be something that heals itself, but I'll see what I can do find out what is causing it.

I think this may be related to a bug SMF fixed in the 1.1.5 update.  I'll check.  Seems 64 bit CRC generation could be the fault.

Another forum oddity I'm seeing is whenever I see Guppy's avatar, Gian's is there instead.

Is it my end?

I do not see this Delirium. I see two different avatars for them.
