Fire in our town

An evolving thing I've been watching today:  couple of things interest me about it, in particular that it took 20 minutes to evacuate an elementary school.  I'm assuming that the evacuation itself took a much shorter amount of time, and that the final walk-through by staff verifying that it was empty took place 20 minutes after the evacuation notice went out.  I hope that is what it meant, anyhow.

KILLEEN - A swift-moving grass fire has prompted the evacuation of a neighborhood and school in the area of Stagecoach and 195 in Killeen.

Students are being moved from Reeces Creek Elementary school to the Killeen Special Events Center on W.S. Young Drive.  Nearly 1000 students were evacuated from the school in 20 minutes.

Parents may pick up their children there but must present photo identification in order to pick them up.

Firefighters went door to door telling all residents from the James Way and Omar Reed Neighborhoods to evacuate. The evacuees have been sent to Lion's Park in Killeen.

Stan Schluter Drive has been shutdown between 195 and Fort Hood Street.

Nearly,  200 acres have been scorched and the flames continue to be driven by strong Southerly winds that are gusting as high as 29 MPH.

Two fire trucks have been totalled in the blaze.
