yes.. politicians rarely say anything of substance because... they simply don't want to be held accountable for what they have said later.
The best way to see what they are about is to see what they have done. To listen to interviews where hard questions are asked. McCain willingly gave an interview to the "Rifleman" (NRA) and clearly spelled out how he felt.

Actually I was very impressed with McCain's interview with the NRA - they asked him very exacting questions, and he answered completely straightforwardly. There were no long winded BS answers, no rhetoric, and no dancing around issues.
It was so refreshing to see a politician be up front like that - what an absolute contrast to Obama (who is the biggest bullpoopting shuck'n'jive windbag huckster I've ever seen step behind a lectern).
If the two ever debate, I really think McCain will skewer him.
Of course, that may not be enough to reach the American Idol Generation who see him as the Second Coming of The Jesus.
