Any Dodge technicians here
« on: June 03, 2008, 11:44:42 PM »
I'm just asking for advice. I have a 94 Dodge 3/4 ton diesel and when I get to about 60 mph the engine starts revivng up a couple grand every 30 seconds or so. The problem seems more prevalent in cruise. The system sometimes turns O/D off at whim. Is this a sensor ? I don't wan't to pay for this guys boat.

sounds almost like your transmission is slipping a little. how's the fluid look? is it full? is it burnt?

See if the transmission can be adjusted. It does sound like the bands are slipping a bit.

Speed control sensor? I'm thinking there is a sensor that links from the cruise control to the engine cp then to a sensor on the tranny. I don't have a dodge flow/electrical chart book here but sounds like that might be it also. Your trucks not really that old in the tranny age of things so i'd do some more research.

Your eating your torque converter, pretty soon a blade will break off and feeds itself into your transmission... and then you'll need another one.

I've seen a couple things online about a speed sensor acting up. Anything below about 55 it doesn't slip at all.  I appreciate the help. I just don't want to take it in and have the mech say "well it looks like you need a new tranny"

You might try asking your question here: http://oilburners.net/forums/

There is a section just for the 12v Cummins powered trucks(what your truck is)

Or if you don't mind spending a little money you could ask here:  http://www.turbodieselregister.com/

The second site cost money to join, but it is dedicated to the Cummins powered Dodge trucks.

I'm surprised your transmission from 94 has lasted that long.

It's slipping.   Either your linkage is shot, or needs adjusting.
