LSO Platform and Tower on CV
« on: June 04, 2008, 01:48:42 PM »
Would love to see the option of being able to stand on a CV's LSO platform or the tower, which I believe would be very helpfull when training people in the art of Carrier landings. Since you can change positions in a bomber, why not be able to change position while in the CV?

You can change position in some way. I don't know exactly where the LSO position is (excuse my ignorance) but just click on Oclub when on CV - you will find yourself on a platform outside of the bridge, having full view of that deck.

No worries Lusche, I should have explained. The LSO platform is located on the flight deck, port quarter. (left back corner of the flight deck) Sorry, been in the Navy too long

Ok, in that case its not what you've been asking for, but the Oclub view on CV may help a few people until your wish is granted:

Of course the view is freely movable with F8

Wow, something Lusche didn't know. ;)

Landing Signal Officer (LSO)

If you're curious, "Bridges At Toko Ri". Korean War, but great film w/ some good LSO footage.

I'd love to have a functional LSO. That was the one of the coolest parts of Aces of the Pacific: Coming in for a carrier landing and actually having the LSO guide you in.

I don't remember an LSO, but then again I don't remember ever landing either. :)  Was there actually a figure with paddles standing at the stern?

Yep....the still have Landing Signal Officers too.

Granted alot more automated with landing lights (the meatball) than the man waving the paddles in WW2.

I meant was there actually a figure at the rear of the CV in "Aces of the Pacific". The Fresnel system in use today has been around for quite some time.

When you were lining up on your approach to the carrier there was a keyboard funtion you could press that would open up a little box in the top corner of the screen, showing the LSO, who would use the paddles to guide you in (graphics at the time wouldn't have allowed them to ACTUALLY render him standing on the CV).

Sure they could. He would have been 2 pixels high and had 8 different color uniforms to choose from. :D
