Not only is this going to happen, it has happened before in New York City. AND survived the following legal challenges!

Ya know, instead of random checkpoints for random amounts of time it sounds like that neighborhood needs an increased police presence ALL the time. You know, cops walking the beat? But hey, random checks of "suspicious" things is cheaper and easier.. except for that pesky old 4th Amendment stuff.

What's the difference between this and a DUI checkpoint?  I went thru a checkpoint down in Fla that video taped everything, they did a "systems check" on your vehicle, 1 thing off and that gives them probable cause to search your vehicle.

When you went through the DUI checkpoint, did they ask you what business you had being out on that particular road? Did you have to justify the fact that you were where you were?

all checkpoints are illegal, no probable cause, but they are the govt and they are here to help you, and they "will arrest people who do not cooperate, under a charge of failure to obey a police officer, officials said."

Why would they even need em...  it is one of the safest cities in the world due to it having the most restrictive and unconstitutional gun bans in the nation.

This is absolute lunacy.. I am flabbergasted at what I am seeing coming out of the NE corner of the nation. This is all based on the supposition that the trouble makers all come from somewhere else. I suppose that none of them live in the neighborhood. Naah that's not possible, there couldn't possibly be gangs in that neighborhood, they have to be imported.  :rolleye

My response to the questioning would be simple. Am I under arrest? Followed by, I refuse to answer based on the 5th amendment. I refuse permission to search, get a warrant. I would produce a drivers license, registration and proof of insurance on demand as those items are not protected under the constitution because driving is not a right and those can be requested any time you are operating a motor vehicle on the street.

so they think that not only will announcing what they're doing, help, but theyre only doing 1 single street. how many other roads lead into this section? they're gonna just let pedestrians walk past too?
BIIIIIG waste of time and money.

wonder what'd happen if they had officers constantly patrolling the area? or maybe....juuust maybe, let law abiding citizens defend themselves? nah..that can't happen, as it's been prove it doesn't work.

I think the pattern is pretty clear...

First take away your guns and then take away the rest of your rights.

I hope that doesn't start coming this direction. Anytime some liberal in the state legislature here finds out about crap like this they decide to start trying to socialize the state of Alabama. Especially since there is a huge gap in the ones with money and the ones without money here.

The checkpoint will stop vehicles approaching the 1400 block of Montello Avenue NE, a section of the Trinidad neighborhood that has been plagued with homicides and other violence. Police will search cars if they suspect the presence of guns or drugs, and will arrest people who do not cooperate, under a charge of failure to obey a police officer, officials said.

The above type of belief trumps the 4th Amendment now and I dare say a majority of the people in the country welcome it in the name of strong law enforcement and fighting terrorism.

If you object you are hiding something and need to be punished.

Not to worry tho, as long as we have the 2nd we don't need the 4th, just need to start a revolution  :lol
