A First in the History of Man
« on: June 05, 2008, 01:13:09 PM »
This is really strange...

A while ago, I started to look into replacing our old 50" large screen TV with a new LCD HD widescreen TV. After I had settled what would work well for us I approached my wife with the idea. She was all for it, so we went to our local Best Buy to see the TVs up front and personal.

I started to take her directly to the 42" TV I had in mind. As we were walking a salesman joined us on our trip to the TV. Once we got there, and as the salesman started explaining it's features, my wife blurts out "Bigger". The salesman just looked at her and I just about passed out. But I recovered, moved down the row a bit and said "OK, how about this 46"?". To my amazement her reply was one word..."Bigger". By now she's attracting attention from other people with that one word.

I heard the salesman snicker a little but I ignored him and moved a little further down the row asking the same question about a 52". After a slight pause, the same basic reply but with an added description..."Bigger...like that one or bigger" as she gestured toward an $8000 57" TV sitting in front of the demo room. Now I hear several people laughing nearby.

By now I'm totally speechless....I don't know what to do. This is not normal. No matter how understaning they are with men, women do not usually want to spend money on electronic toys.

At that point, I politely notified her that we need to go home and talk about this. As we walked out of the store she laughed and said..."This has to be a first in the history of man....the man arguing for a smaller TV and the woman wanting a bigger one.".

I must be sick.  :(

Your only sick because you didn't get it then.  You are one lucky guy.  Good luck shopping.  By the by, just keep in the back of your mind that maybe she wants something too.

NHawk, I know how you feel.  I own a 60" HD set thanks to the Wife's casual way of shopping.  You know what I mean?  That look that says, "Not good enough".  The only set she smiled at was the 60" set.

So, I end up having to rip out the fireplace to make enough room for the entertainment system she wanted built!

Be very careful of ulterior motives.  I should have know better as my Wife is an interior designer.  I did not see that coming at all.  Quietest freight train I think I have ever been hit by.  Damn near killed myself getting that fireplace out. OY!

Too funny, Skuzzy.

You got played, dude.  :salute your bride; that was a pretty slick one!

Of course, it's kind of win/win...........

Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

In the end, it is a win-win.  But the road to get there was wrote with mines.

She is a sharp one.  I sometimes do not give her enough credit for being as smart as she is.  She seems to know this and this is her way to remind me.

Damn near killed myself getting that fireplace out. OY!

I sure hope there was no electrical work to be done there....especially a grounding issue to deal with....

:D

You hush up!

You attract unwarranted consequences.

60" tv?  Holy fudge...you have a living room the size of a third world country, Skuzzy?

I know what she's thinking and where the TV would go isn't a problem. The TV would go in an alcove we have just for the entertainment system.

She's thinking about an SD program that will display smaller on a smaller LCD TV. She wants it to be the same size that our 50" is now so the LCD screen would have to be huge.

The only alternative I can come up with is a DLP set. Heck, with that I'd go up to 73"...it will fit in the alcove. And it's much much less in cost than an equivalant LCD. But since I've never seen one, I'm unsure of how clear the picture would be.

$8000 TV??? :O I'm in the wrong profession.....that's a ton of cash for a boob tube...Hope it has a life time warranty!
Give it a year and that technology will be 1/2 price.
