P-39N?

I was browsing through some pictures of P-39s when I caught 2 pictures side by side. 1 was of a Russian P-39N and the other of a P-400 in the pacific. They both looked like they carried 20mms.  Did P-39Ns ever have 20mms? And If they did, lets put em in. I'm not a good enough shot with the 37mm

As I've come to understand, a P39D with a 20mm hub gun is more or less a P400.

Yea, I think P-400s had less armour though, but still, I wanna find this out. I want a P-39 with 20mms AND Wep. I know that the P-39D-4 had wep, but I doubt HTC will put it in. If the P-39Q had 20mms, that would be my #1 MA ride of choice, instead, I can only use P-39Ds under certain circumstances. (when fights arent too high which almost never happens)

No, the P-400 was a small subset of the normal line of models. Almost all the others had some variation on the 37mm gun. Some might have had something larger (can't recall the latest end-of-war models right now)

AFAIR several soviet units didn't like the 37 mm gun and it was sometimes replaced by a gun in the 20mm range. Either they had some spare Hispanos or used their own-built guns.

HTC doesn't model field modifications and non-standard (non-factory) based enhancements like that.

The P-39-Q-30 I believe was the last model. Also, the Q variants were all the field fixes/modifications of the N model.

Now the 1590 hp D-2, K and L would be a nice future addition.

Er, no the Qs weren't all field mods of Ns. They were rolled off the factory as Q models. They had the exact same engine as the N, however, and some of the changes (wing gun removal, etc) were also done in the field by the Soviets, who disliked the wing guns. Other modifications no doubt brought the -Ns up to the -Q level akin to early P-47s being retro-fitted to later standards in the field.

The British aircraft were declared unfit for the Western European theatre, and shipped to Russia to aid them. A couple of the originals were held back by the USAAF, and the were refitted and redesigned to:

    * P-39D-3: Additional armor protection under the fuselage (26 converted)
    * P-39D-4: Adopted for photo-reconnaissance, and fitted with a K24 and K-25 camera (11 converted)

Krusty you misunderstand. I meant they based the Q on all the field mod/fixes of the N. I didn't mean it as the Q is just a fixed up N. Sorry for the confusion.

The only nose mounted guns in the P-400/P-39 were 20mm Hispano and the 37mm Oldsmobile gun.

No version of the P-39N/Q ever had anything other than a 37mm in the nose. The only varients to have the 20mm option, with its very limited 60 rounds of ammo, were the P-400, and P-39D-1, and a small # of the P-39Ds (several versions) that were field modified in 1942 with non standard 20mm's, mostly in New Guinea and Gualdacanal.

The P-39Q is the best over all varient of the series, for performance, and power vs weight.

AHT quotes 1325 hp for take off power and 1590 with wep at 2500 ft. If thats not MA worthy not sure what is.

p-39D-2 "37mm option x2 50's and removable .30 option"
P-39Q "same deal"
