Country Select Forum
« on: June 06, 2008, 09:32:48 AM »
How about a forum for Rooks, Knights & Bishops, I think this could promote much better intersquad communications and strategies for multisquad type missions etc.., I also think this would be a good way to improve country morale and support for your fellow country mates. Now I don't know if this has ever been proposed before, if it has, I'am not aware of it nor could I find it on the forums, so all I not looking to get into argue fest here just some intelligent rebuttals good or bad as to this subject.
Thank You

Intersquad communications would be better handled with a private mailing list amongst the interested squads ( Rook Joint Operations utilized this long ago ).

When you create country specific message boards, you're going to encounter issues with managing the list and granting/denying access to the various forums as people change countries.  It's an effort of administration that must be conducted by those who wield admin power.

Couple that with the ENY functionality that encourages people to switch sides to balance arena numbers, and you've got a potential for somebody to spending an aweful lot of time assigning and reassigning people as they hop around.

Then... if you do have country-hoppers involved in the forums, you WILL get accusations of spying and cheating that nobody wants to have to deal with.

I'm not saying it's a bad idea.. but I wouldn't want to be the poor sap that has to manage the membership rosters.

You have pointed out a great positive to my post, the people who switch sides on a regular basis would not get access to that forum and it would help reduce the amount of admin needed to maintain the site. A example would be a person or a squad switching sides and wanting to get on that countries forum would have to stay on that side for the tour, problem solved, if they did not want stay on that particular side for that amount of time then no access would be granted to that countries forum. It could also be done by posting in the rules for subscribing to this counties forum you will not be able to switch to any other country for one tour or until end of the current tour in progress, the choice would then up to that individual weather he or she should subscribe to it or not. Now this would not affect anyone who wants to switch sides, only if they want to do so and get in that countries forum. :salute

Many people on forum do have different BBS handles than ingame handles. How do you check that? Maybe someone would register for Rooks - but how do you keep him from simply switching to Bish ingame while staying on Rook forum?  That would be an administrative nighmare and almost impossible to prevent.

Good point, I don't know exactly how deal with those types of members other than AH not allowing people to have multiple accounts. I guess I don't think of doing something like that, I think it takes away from the satisfaction of winning within the rules of the game. :salute

Personally i don't understand this paranoid preoccupation with spying and secrecy in Aces High.  Why does a CountrySide Forum need to be CLOSED to anyone ?  Nobody is being waterboarded and forced to answer questions.
As a Bishop I would like to ask some of the Knight players exactly how they got their act together in Late May-Early June.   In March and April they were usually the FIRST country to LOSE in the arenas..  And now they are DOMINATING the game.  What's up with that ?
I've also noticed some operational changes in Knight strategy.  They escort more bomber formations, and most of their forward bases are continually CAPPED with planes already in flight.  How are they managing that in a game where any organization is noticeably absent elsewhere ?   Have certain fighter squadrons been tasked specifically with capping forward bases ?
I think sharing ideas between adversaries will only IMPROVE the quality of play for everyone...  or we can just continue to beat up on the ROOKS.   That works too.

Why doesnt somebody make a list of all the known bishops (like me) or rooks or knits and just make a whole SEPERATE forum? Just a private forum like for squads. It'll have to have a CO and will have to be approved by HT or Skuzzy, but I'm sure that could be the solution. And if you arent bishop or switch sides w/o letting the CO of that forum know (switch sides permantly) then you can be booted from the forum or put on "probation" or however Skuzzy and HT deals with these things.
