CV Locking option
« on: June 07, 2008, 03:40:12 PM »
I like to see a feature where you can "Lock" a CV for 1 - 10 minute period every 2 hours.  Reason:  If a squad such as ours want to run a mission and do not want the base to flash, we could lock the CV for 10 minutes and nobody could go on the deck of the CV.  That way when the CV "unlocks" several planes could up and there is that element of surprise.

1. .lock CV###
2. CV would be locked for 10 minutes.
3. Only the gun batteries could be used.
4. However, if enemy is in auto-anti-aircraft range and begins fire (not by player), the CV automatically "unlocks" as a safety feature.  Also if there is a "spy", they can't lock the CV to help the enemy per-se.
5. If the following occurs:
  a. You can unlock CV: .unlock CV###, SYSTEM: CV Unlocked
  b. If CV is locked: .lock CV###, SYSTEM: CV is currently locked, 5 minutes remaining
  c. If CV was locked within past 2 hours:  SYSTEM: CV cannot be locked, 67 minutes remaining.

Any thoughts?

Nope.  Bad Idea to give control of a country wide resource to a single group of persons or a single armchair general.

Yes, it is much better to have 4 or five people fight over the single fleet, while everyone else try's to defend, take off and land on that dang thing.  :huh

Whatever would we do to have some chain of command for a task force.

I would even go as far as to have squad commanders and such register with HTC to become arm chair generals for Cv fleets, if none are around, then anyone else can command them like it is now.

new things should be tryed and investigated.

Sometimes it's good to have a squad where everyone has a score of 10 or lower :P

yep score is chain of comand, for CV at least!  so if you don't like how the CV is being sailed you must either get a better score or find someone sympathetic to your cause with a better score!
this comes with time and practice, and others trust in your ability!

I like the idea.  I'm tired of investing planes in base takeover missions, just to have some dimwhit sail the CV onto an nme spawn point cause he thinks it's cool to shoot PT boats with a 5" naval gun.   Predictably the CV is soon sunk, and all the bombers i lost knocking down the town and the base were thrown away for absolutely NOTHING.
The problem has become so prevalent in the MA, i rarely respond to requests for bomber support for a naval action against bases anymore.   The guys who think the game should be all about having "FUN" with Carriers, are ruining the game for people who take their wargaming and losses Seriously.
Serious missions, around which co-operation, co-ordination and planning by a dozen or more players should not be allowed to be scuttled by some prankster or individual who is NOT part of the plan.
HiTech needs to give this suggestion some careful thought.  If Combat Tour wasn't coming out in September, I would have already decided to drop my subscription to Aces High in July over this one issue.  I'm sure many others agree.

Have to be registered with a mission. And CV cant be under attack.

Why?  It is only for 10 minutes and it is designed for optimal surprise and coordination?

What if the "wrong people" lock it at the wrong time?
Is the lock time limit period of 2h per person that locks, or is the CV lockable only 10 mins per 2h at all?

If former, you may see it constantly locked. If the latter one, the lock feature would easily be rendered useles by someone locking the CV 1h before it would be "necessary" or "feasible": "I still can't lock that %&%&& CV, which ***** did lock it earlier?"

Fishing ?  As in "fishing" to fulfill some dark nefarious agenda ?  LOL. I don't don't think so Mensa.  I have cancer eating up my liver, and my doctor is telling me not to make any long term plans.  I have about a one in five chance of even being alive 9 months from now.   Hey !  Maybe after i'm DEAD you can channel me and i'll give you a hand figuring out what people are REALLY thinking and you can get it RIGHT for a change.

If the wrong people lock it?  Such as maybe in the wrong situations - if nmy is close by and auto/soft-ack starts firing, cv is unlocked such as a saftery precaution so countrymen can up and defend if need be.

The lock time is 10 minutes every 2 hours.  So, when let's say I lock it at minute 1, CV (if its up and out of harms way), it cannot be locked until 120 minutes later.  In all practicallity, CV's that are locked would probably be sunk within those 2 hours anyways.
