Thanks to one of my squad mates, I was able to rig up my mouse to be used gunning in bombers. This is how I set it up in case anyone was interested:
1) go to options > controls > map controls
2) select controller: mouse ; mode selection 3
3) My "controller input" looked something like this: x-axis, y-axis, wheel, button 0, button 1 and button 2
4) for each controller input I highlighted and then clicked "modify" and entered in my "mode 3 functions".
5) for "x-axis" I entered "analog inputs roll (aileron)",
for "y-axis" I entered "analog inputs pitch (elevator)",
for "wheel" I entered "analog inputs view move forward/backward",
for "button 0" I entered "global fire all guns",
for "button 1" I entered "global fire primary",
anf finally for "button 2" I entered "view zoom toggle".
6) calibrate the x and y axi
7) go to "advanced" on the x and y axi calibrate your dampining and raw settings
tip: you need to click "invert" on the y-axi or when you move the mouse up, the crosshairs will go down.
In game, you need to make sure you have your mode hot keys set up. I have F5, F6, F7 and F8 corresponding to mode 1, 2, 3 and 4 respectively. When flying, make sure you are in mode 1 and using your joystick. Then switch to a gun position in your bomber and switch to mode 3. To activate your mouse gun, click the "h" button which locks the mouse pointer in place and switches the mouse control to move your guns. When you go back to the pilots seat, make sure that you are back in mode 1 and using your joystick or your plane will be in control of the mouse.
The only drawback is that the guns dont actually stop when your mouse does. I can take my hand off the mouse completely and the guns are still moving. If anyone has the answer to this problem please post back. If you dont like it all you have to do is toggle off your mouse with the "h" key and switch back to mode 1 to use your joystick. Once you get the feel for it might be a whole lot more stable firing than with the joystick, but I'm still testing it out.
